AI era didn't really change how software engineering works.
Yes, with generative AI, it is so much easier to generate code. Anyone can do it. But from a CTO's perspective, this really did not change how engineering works. The key factors that make product-building successful remain the same.
Design. Architecture. Communication. Clearly explain and think through what a software product actually needs. What the requirements are. What the dependencies are. What your users actually need. It's the user experience that you want to deliver.
That process really didn't change. The only part that got streamlined is code-writing. But code-writing has always been just a small part of the entire engineering process.
Just like having a calculator doesn't replace the accountant, having Agentic AI to write code doesn't replace software engineering. Except now, the pure "calculation person" got replaced, and the real product builders can focus on what matters.
