a codex reset can't be $50.

tokens via subscription are extremely subsidized (x47 the cost via API)

Quotas are measured in weeks, subscriptions are priced by month. An average month has 4.3 weeks in it. Average week costs $46.51 on the $200 plan.

The advantage that OpenAI gets from metering their users on subscription is that they can allocate appropriate compute to handle the load. Many users maintain multiple subscriptions in order to use more tokens when one account runs out of quota. If OpenAI sells resets at the exact same price of their extremely subsidized subscription ($200/4), they lose any kind of compute load predictability.

They can still offer resets... but at a mark up premium.

Today's token price is being sold as an (extreme) loss leader. They may offer it for the convenience of the consumer, but they can't make it the most obvious and viable and best path.

My guess is that a reset will be at least:

$200 plan = $80
$100 plan = $40
$20 plan = no, lol
