@gooolixx I think it peters out a bit in the middle, but the first 3 songs and the last 5 songs are some of the strongest put on a beach boys record imo. no coincidence those are all Brian involved songs. Kinda the last album until 15BO where he was really involved w/ the sessions.
@Hoop_JohnB this is like the modern day equivalent of that painting that brian thought captured his soul and it freaked him out.. you have captured their essence perfectly
The cast of Netflix's live-action ‘SCOOBY-DOO’ series all together:
• McKenna Grace as Daphne
• Tanner Hagen as Shaggy
• Maxwell Jenkins as Fred
• Abby Ryder Forston as Velma
@gooolixx@fulcrumlives327@APanther369 there's a brief bit of the melody brian sings during the session, but it's unreleased. a recreation of the melody can be found here: https://t.co/g95R4v7plN
there were never lyrics written cause brian decided pretty quickly and early on that it would remain an instrumental.
@BeachBoysFan59@umjammerox But Brian was extremely involved with the album, too. helping produce, arrange vocals, and genuinely half the songs he wrote / cowrote! he was all over it and the fact it did so poorly a was a big blow to him and a big reason why he retreated from participating on the next albums
@BeachBoysFan59@umjammerox curious why it's not even in your top 15?? it's not their best album imo, but definitely top 5 as it's their most defining album as a group that was collaborating together. Latter half of the album is as good a second side as they ever put out, hit after hit after hit.
@111wonderfu1 I never got the impression that it was actually recorded, this is the only time I’ve heard it mentioned it was. The given reason it never happened always felt a little suspicious to me, too. I’m still skeptical it was recorded, tbh, but if anyone would know, it’d be Jean I guess!
@APanther369 Nah adult child is unfocused and a mixed bag of several different things that don’t mesh well. Big band arranged songs, very stark love you-esque songs, and songs from 7 years prior. It feels like Brian throwin a buncha stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks and callin it a day
@callthecomets Not to diminish Dennis at all. Just a fascinating collaboration between the two brothers which weirdly rarely happened. Brian just chose not to be credited for it (beyond an arranged by credit on the single release)
@callthecomets Fun fact! Dennis wrote the verse melody to match a poem Stephen Kalinich wrote but everything else is pretty much Brian’s doing. Basically everything musically from “what a day” to the end is Brian’s writing. Production/arrangement throughout the whole track is all Brian.
i have to watch this video 20 times in a row whenever i see it cause hearing old man brian candidly sing a song he loves warms my heart in incomprehensible ways
2020: Brian playing “This Could Be the Night” for Al. The song was written in 1965 by Harry Nilsson in tribute to Brian. Brian would perform it live, and you can hear it on Brian’s upcoming Record Store Day release, On Tour 1999–2007. More info at https://t.co/DoDFTJSUi8
