At age 14, Robin Lund moved from Peace River, Alberta, Canada, to Lewiston, Idaho, U.S.A., to play baseball.
Today, he uses his Ph.D to help 2x Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers win, with a whole village in his corner.

Tuesday's sports cover: A look back at the 2026 Avista NAIA World Series — for over a week Lewiston became 'Upset City'; WSU baseball fell to Oregon State in the Eugene Regional; Mariners top Mets with a Cole Young walk-off; and some NFL news.
Washington State baseball raised the program's standard in 2026. The singular performance in a singular standout year that exemplified this most of all was LHP Nick Lewis pitching himself into the Cougar consciousness with a complete game 3-2 victory over Oregon State.
A late season change to Tennessee Wesleyan's lineup card vaulted World Series MVP Allan Gil Fernandez to the top of the Bulldogs' order, and all the way to the top of NAIA baseball.
More, on TWU's critical adjustment ⬇️
Tennessee Wesleyan coach Billy Berry vaulted his legacy into a new stratosphere last weekend with his 3rd national championship at the helm.
He and the Bulldogs did it after playing their previous World Series game past 2 a.m.
How he got it done ⬇️
Tennessee Wesleyan's Kolton Reynolds opens the bottom of the 8th with a three-run home run.
The Bulldogs now lead 20-3 after playing about 19 hours prior.
A truly impressive championship game for TWU.
The Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs are alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic after a late night.
After punching their ticket to title game at 2:09 a.m., the Bulldogs are back at the ballpark and up 7-0 over Taylor in the bottom of the third.
After Tennessee Wesleyan beat William Carey 16-14 at 2:09 a.m., the Bulldogs have 16 hours to rest and prepare for the national championship against the Taylor Trojans.
What to watch for in the NAIA World Series title game later today.

There’s no such thing as a quick walk to or from the press box for Denny Grubb, the official statistician of 39 of the past 42 NAIA World Series.
That’s a part of the job that Grubb — who on Wednesday surpassed 700 Series games scored — enjoys the most.

@BigGeorge6953@NAIABall@WmCareyBSB@NAIA It was certainly an alarming call, and it seemed that no one in that stadium was particularly convinced. That's a solid track record of World Series attendance. Cheers for staying all the way through this one!
William Carey posted 10 runs in the sixth to take a 13-9 lead.
Then, TWU posted five runs across the last two innings, including 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to lead 14-13.
However, umpires took about 10 minutes to discuss. Rain is falling, it's 1:30 a.m.
They play on.
Here comes the tarp.
William Carey (Miss.) and Tennessee Wesleyan are supposed to play tonight in Lewiston for a spot in the NAIA Baseball World Series national title game.
