@NoahBrierley 2. in the Magna Carta which predates the flag by hundreds of years.
As to why the flag is a racist symbol - you only have to look at our colonial history - it was the flag being flown while the British Empire subjugated thousands under racist regimes.
@NoahBrierley 1. It also seems rather simplistic to argue that the flag is what enabled free speech. We have the right to free speech in the UK, but so do other countries. It was not the flag which enabled this - in fact the beginnings of this protection of free speech can be found ...
