It's absolutely baffling to see the backlash against this announcement.
Imagine complaining that the UK is securing a multi-billion-pound private investment.
Let's look at the actual numbers: taxpayers are funding £1.3bn for local roads & a new rail station. In return, Universal is spending £5 billion to build the park and another £1 billion operating it.
Bedford(& the UK) gets 28,000 total jobs, a massive revitalization of a former industrial site, & a projected £50 billion economic boost.
The sheer cynicism around projects like this is exactly what holds the UK back. If we treat massive, job-creating investments as something to be outraged about, we only guarantee our own economic stagnation.
Living in the area of a by election gives you so much more insight into the bs involved - these repairs are already happening....
They hope theyll roll in, have this work completed (by others) and take credit....
And people will fall for it lmaoooo
Ashton Library has been closed and left to rot for almost two years.
As MP for Makerfield I will fight tooth and nail to get this building repaired, reopened, and serving this community again.
@_WokeNonsenseFC All I ever see you do is moan all the time.. go watch another sport mate as this one clearly isn’t for you.. if you can’t enjoy great nights last night then you will never enjoy it! 🙌🏻😂
Easy to explain.
Every Jedi in the prequels is a properly trained Jedi, even Obi-wan in Episode I. Remember that Qui-gon stated that Obi-wan was ready for the Jedi Knight trials, he had nothing left to teach him (which is why he requested that Anakin be placed under Kenobi as his padawan). There are an incredible amount of lightsaber forms detailed in the EU and other media.
Then come original trilogy, there are hardly any Jedi left and the fighting reflects that. Both Obi-wan AND Vader are old and worn down, making them slower fighters (even Yoda shows exhaustion in Attack of the Clones, just to illustrate that age and tiredness still matters even when you're one of most powerful Jedi to exist). For Luke, there is very little information outside of Yoda in order to fight with a lightsaber properly. Hell, even Luke's construction of his green lightsaber is noted with many failures before he finally figured it out.
And then get to New trilogy, and once again, there are few active force users in the game. Luke quit training anyone after Ben, so... yeah. Lightsaber fights would look sloppy and slow, because they are NOT Jedi or even Sith. They're all just Force sensitives trying to learn.
Prequel trilogy featured people who had DECADES of lightsaber training. So that's the explanation.
My wife spent an entire year taking on extra work and smashing all her targets so that she could ask for a pay rise, they actually gave her one and then literally 2 days later our landlord put up our rent by more than the raise because he decided it was time to be paid more money
Reform UK wants to abolish income tax on overtime.
It sounds like a tax cut for hard work. Actually a tax cut for the word “overtime”.
So little GDP impact & huge cost - we reckon £14bn not Reform's £5bn
If you want to spent £5bn on tax cuts, we have ten better ways:
🧵
France already tried “tax-free overtime” back in 2007. By 2012 they’d binned it no extra hours worked, just high earners relabelling their normal pay as “overtime” to dodge tax, while the taxpayer picked up the tab.
So spare us the “reward hard work” speech. The only truly tax-free reward going was Nigel’s £5m from a crypto geezer. How much overtime did he clock for that one? 🇬🇧
My last comment on this, because people are generally stupid.
With this policy, my business, my partner and I could save thousands p.a.
Taking full minimum wage salary for 40 hours a week, would result us paying a bit more income tax and employers NI. Minimum wage salary is just over £26,000. The difference of £48,000 we would take as overtime. Each. That’s £96,000 that wouldn’t be profit, so there’d be no corporation tax at 25%, but we would pay employer’s NI of 15%. That’s already a drop in tax receipts.
However, we then wouldn’t take any dividends, which means there’s no dividend tax going to the exchequer.
If anyone thinks that this policy has been thought through, they’re stupid.
