NEW: Houston officer exchanges gunfire with suspicious male carrying a pink purse containing a handgun during Glenmont traffic stop

Last Wednesday a Houston officer responded to a call about a suspicious man walking with a pink purse containing a black handgun.

The officer gave multiple commands to drop the purse. The man ignored them, reached inside, pulled out the handgun, and pointed it at the officer.

An exchange of gunfire occurred.

The suspect was struck multiple times, ran into a nearby apartment complex, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The officer was grazed in the right side of his abdomen but was not seriously injured.

Bodycam video will be released within 30 days.
