The book, “Gani Fawehinmi and Uba Sani: A Tale of Mentor and Mentee,” authored by his daughter, Mrs Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, Esq. captures the remarkable bond we forged during the struggle for Nigeria’s democracy and the values he imparted. His courage, integrity and commitment continue to guide me.

I am deeply honoured and humbled to be the central subject of a momentous occasion today in Kaduna, commemorating my enduring relationship with my late mentor, Chief Abdul-Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, SAN, GCON, and celebrating the publication of the very important book, ‘Gani Fawehinmi and Uba Sani: A Tale of Mentor and Mentee’, authored by his daughter, my dear sister, Mrs. Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, Esq. This gathering is far more than a book launch; it is a tribute to a remarkable life and an invitation to reflect on the values of courage, justice, democracy, education and service that defined Chief Gani’s extraordinary journey. I am particularly delighted to welcome and reconnect with many of the comrades and activists with whom I stood shoulder to shoulder during Nigeria’s historic pro-democracy struggle.

I am immensely grateful to Mrs. Fawehinmi-Biobaku for documenting this important chapter of our national story. By bringing these memories and experiences into enduring form, she has preserved not merely the account of a personal relationship, but a remarkable tradition of mentorship, sacrifice and service whose lessons will continue to resonate with generations yet unborn.

Among Chief Gani’s many enduring legacies, his unwavering commitment to education remains especially close to my heart. I was privileged to play a role in extending his scholarship scheme to Northern Nigeria, where it supported more than 1,000 brilliant but indigent students. Many of these beneficiaries have since become accomplished professionals, contributing meaningfully to our nation. That experience reinforced my abiding conviction that investing in the education of one young person can transform a family, uplift a community and positively alter the destiny of generations.

I was deeply moved by the generous reflections of the comrades, activists and distinguished speakers who spoke about my closeness to Chief Gani, my participation in the pro-democracy struggle and the responsibility I have assumed to preserve and advance the ideals for which he lived and fought. Their description of me as a living reflection of his values is profoundly humbling, but it is also a solemn reminder that public service must ultimately be judged not by titles or acclaim, but by the difference it makes in the lives of ordinary people. This conviction continues to shape my administration in Kaduna State, particularly our commitment to education, vocational training, human capital development and social inclusion.

Today’s International Youth Day Conference 2026, convened by the Kaduna State Government through the Ministry of Youth Development, has been a profound reminder of the extraordinary promise that resides in our young people. I left the opening events deeply inspired by the brilliance, creativity, courage and determination they have demonstrated. I am immensely proud of the youths of Kaduna State. Their ideas, innovations and entrepreneurial imagination affirm a truth at the heart of our administration’s philosophy: that no investment yields a greater dividend for society than the deliberate cultivation of its young people.

The testimonies of beneficiaries of our technology support initiatives were particularly heartening. Their appreciation of our interventions, and their recognition of the unprecedented scale of our investment in youth development among Nigerian states, strengthen our conviction that we must remain ambitious, purposeful and relentless in this endeavour.

We will therefore continue to expand access to digital skills, technology, entrepreneurship and the resources required to transform ingenuity into enterprise, aspiration into opportunity, and talent into sustainable livelihoods.

At the commissioning, representatives of beneficiary communities expressed profound appreciation for the intervention, underscoring its importance to their livelihoods and development. I was pleased to receive the management of the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, led by its Chief Medical Director, Dr. Amina Hassan Wali, at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. The visit afforded us an important opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding, advance shared interests, and deepen the cordial partnership between the Centre and the Kaduna State Government.

Dr. Wali commended our administration’s sustained efforts to improve healthcare delivery, prioritise the welfare of health workers, and preserve the peace and enabling environment essential to the Centre’s effective operations. She also underscored the Centre’s vital role as Nigeria’s only dedicated eye specialist hospital, providing specialised services to patients from Kaduna and across the country.

I commended the Centre’s management for its professionalism and unwavering commitment to excellence. I reaffirmed our administration’s investments in healthcare, including the annual employment of 1,800 health workers for the next five years, approval of CONHESS and CONMESS, completion of the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, and the ongoing upgrading of primary and secondary healthcare facilities.

In response to the Centre’s request for support, I approved the provision of an operational vehicle to facilitate staff mobility and improve service delivery. To further enhance security within the Centre, I directed Operation Fushin Kada and the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) to strengthen security arrangements. Most importantly, I presented the land allocation documents for a staff housing scheme, an initiative designed to improve staff welfare, boost morale and enhance efficiency. We will also support the proposed College of Nursing Sciences, reinforcing Kaduna’s emergence as a hub for healthcare education, training and professional development.

I dedicated the Award of Appreciation presented to me to our hardworking health workers and the people of Kaduna State, whose trust and service remain central to our progress.

I was honoured to attend the National Seminar of Fityanul Islam of Nigeria as Special Guest of Honour at the newly commissioned Muhammadu Buhari Hall in Kaduna. The seminar brought together more than 2,000 members of the First Aid Group from across the country for intensive training in administration, first-aid response, discipline, dress code, and specialised sessions by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Beyond the training itself, the seminar represents an important investment in civic responsibility. In moments of crisis, communities are often strengthened not only by institutions, but by citizens equipped with the knowledge, discipline and practical skills to respond effectively. I commend the leadership of Fityanul Islam for sustaining this culture of service and for placing human capacity development at the heart of community wellbeing.

I was deeply humbled to receive an Award of Excellence in recognition of the progress recorded in security and public safety across Kaduna State, our commitment to responsible leadership, and our support for humanity. I accept this honour on behalf of the people of Kaduna State.

The commendations on our administration’s efforts to strengthen security, foster peace, support vulnerable citizens and invest in human capital are encouraging. They also reinforce our responsibility to do more. Our commitment remains unwavering: to build a Kaduna where governance is measured by the welfare, dignity, security and wellbeing of every citizen.

I am deeply gratified by the successful maiden graduation of 4,050 trainees of the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD), drawn from our three campuses strategically serving the three senatorial zones of Kaduna State.

The commendations from top officials of the Federal Government, industry stakeholders, parents and, most importantly, our graduates affirm our conviction that investment in skills is an investment in the future of Kaduna. Through a ₦810 million grant, start-up support, internationally recognised qualifications and meaningful industry linkages, we are deliberately bridging the gap between training and opportunity, ensuring that skills translate into livelihoods, enterprise and sustainable economic value.

Of particular significance is the Federal Ministry of Education’s decision, through the Honourable Minister, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, to adopt KIVTSD’s training manuals as reference materials for the development of a nationwide guide for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Equally encouraging is the recognition by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), under the leadership of Prof. Idris Bugaje, of our Institutes as among the best in Nigeria, on account of their excellence, modern facilities and industry-standard technology. These acknowledgements affirm that the Kaduna Model is not merely producing skilled young people; it is shaping a framework with growing national relevance.

On Thursday, 27th August 2026, 4,050 graduates from all three campuses of the Kaduna Institute of Vocational Training and Skill Development (KIVTSD) will mark a major milestone.

From plumbing and electrical installation to welding, solar installation, fashion design, catering, auto mechatronics, computer repairs and more, the institute is equipping young people with practical skills to work, earn and build.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, Kaduna continues to invest in skills and opportunities for its young people.

I was in Osogbo today as Chairman of the Monitoring and Compliance Committee of the APC Osun State Governorship Campaign Council, joining our great party at its Grand Rally in support of our candidate for the gubernatorial election that holds this Saturday, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

I delivered a goodwill message and engaged with our dear citizens from northern parts of the country that reside in Osun State, underscoring the imperative of peaceful, responsible and inclusive participation in Saturday’s election. Osun stands at a defining moment, and the choice before its people is both consequential and clear: to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of our great leader, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and open the way to greater opportunities, investment and transformation.

The APC has demonstrated that meaningful development is possible when leadership is purposeful, visionary and firmly anchored in the aspirations of the people. I was honoured to participate in the International Conference on “Diversity and Social Peace: Partnership for a Promising Future,” organised by the Muslim World League and Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The gathering of leaders and stakeholders from across religious, ethnic, political and racial divides reaffirmed a profound truth: our diversity should be a source of strength, not division. Peaceful coexistence is indispensable to Nigeria’s stability, development and shared prosperity.

In Kaduna State, we have demonstrated that inclusive governance can fundamentally reshape the narrative. Since assuming office, our administration has pursued a leadership philosophy that recognises every citizen as an equal stakeholder, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation. Through sustained dialogue, community engagement and purposeful partnerships, we have confronted longstanding sources of tension, rebuilt confidence and strengthened the bonds that hold our communities together. Today, Kaduna is more peaceful, and our Kaduna Peace Model is increasingly inspiring other states to embrace inclusive approaches to insecurity and ethno-religious challenges.

I commend the Muslim World League and JIBWIS for convening this timely and consequential dialogue. I equally appreciate the Muslim World League led by the Secretary-General, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa for choosing Kaduna for this landmark Cardiac Centre, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and among the best in Nigeria. The choice of Kaduna is a global recognition of our administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership, religious harmony, peaceful coexistence and deliberate investment in healthcare. Established in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, the Centre is a fitting recognition of the peace, trust and progress we have collectively nurtured.

Our discussions provided a platform to assess ongoing initiatives, exchange insights, and deepen our shared commitment to delivering measurable and lasting outcomes for the people of Kaduna State. I was particularly encouraged by Mr. Vora's observation that Kaduna has consistently emerged as the Foundation's foremost subnational partner in deliberations at its global headquarters. That recognition affirms our administration's unwavering commitment to investing in the pillars of sustainable development—healthcare, education, agriculture, and human capital.

I expressed my profound appreciation to the Gates Foundation for choosing Kaduna as the first destination of its global leadership team's visit to Nigeria. Today, I had the distinct honour of representing His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Kaduna–Mando–Birnin Gwari Road, while also participating in my capacity as the Governor of Kaduna State. It was a defining moment that speaks to a shared national resolve to consolidate peace, expand opportunity and deliver enduring progress through purposeful leadership.

On behalf of Mr. President, I conveyed his unwavering commitment to the people of Kaduna State and his determination to improve their quality of life through strategic investments in infrastructure, security and inclusive economic development. I also expressed my profound appreciation to him for approving this transformational project and ensuring the timely release of the resources required for its successful execution.

For more than three decades, this vital corridor has awaited comprehensive reconstruction. Today, we begin far more than the rehabilitation of a road; we are restoring a strategic artery of commerce and connectivity that will reunite communities, unlock agricultural potential, facilitate trade, strengthen food security and reinforce national cohesion. This project affirms a fundamental truth: peace and development are mutually reinforcing. Sustainable security creates the conditions for investment and prosperity, while inclusive development strengthens the foundations of lasting peace.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi, CON, and the Federal Ministry of Works for their steadfast commitment to this landmark undertaking. I also warmly welcome the contractors, J. Patel & Sons Nigeria Limited, and look forward to the delivery of infrastructure distinguished by quality, durability and excellence.

The goodwill expressed by our revered traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders was deeply encouraging. I had the privilege of receiving Mrs. Sarah Achi, wife of the late Ven. Edwin Achi, who paid a courtesy visit to express her heartfelt appreciation. She was accompanied by the Archbishop of Kaduna Diocese, Most Rev. Timothy Yahaya. I also welcomed Mal. Usman Aliyu, husband of the late Ummulkhair Aliyu, whose life was tragically cut short in the painful incident of jungle justice in Maraban Jos. He was accompanied by Sheikh Haliru Maraya.

In the aftermath of these deeply distressing tragedies, I visited both families to offer my condolences and to assure them that the Kaduna State Government would stand with them beyond words of sympathy. In keeping with that commitment, we provided each family with a home, extended financial support to help them rebuild their lives, and assumed responsibility for the education of their children.

I am profoundly touched by their prayers and expressions of gratitude for our inclusive, compassionate, and people-centred approach to governance. Their kind words strengthen our conviction that public service finds its highest expression when empathy is translated into meaningful action and promises are honoured with integrity.

Our administration remains unwavering in its commitment to restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity to victims of violence through access to decent housing, quality education, healthcare, and sustainable economic empowerment. It is this same philosophy that informed the distribution of 100 housing units to victims of banditry across Kaduna State. We will continue to work closely with security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, and all stakeholders to build a Kaduna that is safer, more peaceful, and more inclusive for every citizen.

I had the honour of attending the Wedding Fatiha of the son of the Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, where I had the privilege of serving as the Wakili to the groom, Hamza Ibrahim Mohammed, as he solemnised his marriage to his bride, Haleemah Muhammad Auwal.

The Wedding Fatiha was held at the Kaduna Polytechnic Central Mosque, Tudun Wada, in the presence of family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers.
