In celebration of National Heritage Month 2026, the Samar Provincial Library proudly showcases a special collection of Philippine literary and cultural treasures that reflect the nation’s rich history, traditions, arts, and identity.
This is usually preferred as a venue for picnic by local tourists. It is also a source of food and water for domestic use. It also serves as fast track in transporting goods to Calbiga market using "tabaw" or motorboat.
In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, National Heritage Month, and National Ocean Month this May 2026, the Samar Provincial Library proudly joins the nationwide and global observance of these meaningful advocacies.
A program Through the Wires titled “Digital Citizenship: Responsible Use of Technology and Social Media” was successfully conducted on May 12, 2026, at the Brgy. Hall of Bunu-anan, Catbalogan City, with the participation of eight (8) interested Out-of-School Youths (OSY).
One of them, named Arellano, managed to escape by jumping over the walls of the provincial jail. Four leaders of the civil guards were later taken to the boat Bais and executed by shooting before the Spaniards departed Catbalogan in December 1898.
The pier has a depth and length that could easily accommodate big ships. The ships that usually docked at the Catbalogan wharf were the M/Vs Mactan, Don Eusebio, General Lukban, Sweet Grace, Cebu Princess, Mindoro, Sweet Rose, Tacloban Princess and Doña Paz, among many others.
In the Philippines, Ocean Month is officially celebrated every May under Presidential Proclamation No. 57, s. 1999 to promote awareness and protection of the country’s marine resources.

Patnubay Dunong Program remains active inside the library this summer break, offering learners a space for guidance and support. Led by Activity In-Charge Sir Benedicto A. Reyes, the program continues to assist students in their academic needs.
National Heritage Month 2026 carries the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future.” This year’s symbol, the banig, reflects connection, continuity, and community—woven from the diverse stories and traditions that define us as Filipinos. 😀

Walk-in clients at the library took a moment to snap photos during the April celebrations, which featured National Literature Month and National Food Month. A Book Fair was in line with National Literature Month and flyers on ASEAN foods were distributed to clients.
Since most people don’t have a daba (a large clay pot), you can use a heavy-bottomed pot with a lid as an alternative. To create a tight seal, cover the pot with two layers of aluminum foil (or banana leaves), then secure it with kitchen string before placing the lid on top.
