For all the online trolls, who went mad over my previous tweet. This is what I was speaking about. Even in case of academic dishonesty, a Public Institute should not issue a press release characterising a deceased student on two clear accounts:

1. It forecloses all possibilities of an objective investigation into the suicide.

2. The standard practice around Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) proceedings is anonymity. Preemptive mentioning of the DAC in the press release was erroneous.

IITs are heavy bureaucracies. They are quite aware of these procedural know-hows. I have been a part of DACs as a Student Representative and I can unequivocally say that this was nothing short of enabling a public feeding frenzy around a 19 year old dead student.

IIT-Bombay के बीटेक (एनर्जी साइंस) द्वितीय वर्ष के दलित छात्र साहिल वाकोड़े की असामयिक मृत्यु ने देश के प्रतिष्ठित उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों में छात्रों की सुरक्षा, सम्मान और संस्थागत जवाबदेही को लेकर गंभीर सवाल खड़े किए हैं।

साहिल जी की आत्महत्या के अगले दिन कॉलेज प्रशासन द्वारा जारी बयान में परीक्षा के दौरान उनके पास मोबाइल फोन मिलने की बात कही गई। लेकिन साहिल की मृत्यु के अगले दिन प्रशासन द्वारा यह बयान जारी किया जाना और पूरे मामले को मुख्य रूप से मोबाइल मिलने की घटना से जोड़ना कई गंभीर सवाल खड़े करता है और मामले को लेकर संदेह को और गहरा करता है। यह भी महत्वपूर्ण है कि परीक्षा कक्ष में साहिल जी के आसपास अन्य परीक्षार्थी मौजूद थे, लेकिन अभी तक उनमें से किसी अन्य परीक्षार्थी द्वारा उनके पास मोबाइल फोन होने की बात कहे जाने की जानकारी सामने नहीं आई है।

वहीं, कॉलेज प्रशासन के नियमानुसार, यदि परीक्षा के दौरान किसी परीक्षार्थी के पास मोबाइल फोन या अन्य प्रतिबंधित सामग्री मिलती है, तो संबंधित सामग्री जब्त कर परीक्षार्थी को नई उत्तरपुस्तिका देकर परीक्षा पूरी कराई जाती है और आगे की कार्रवाई के लिए मामला कमेटी के सामने रखा जाता है।

साहिल के परिजनों और साथी छात्रों का कहना है कि उन्हें प्रोफेसर द्वारा परीक्षा कक्ष से बाहर ले जाकर धमकाया गया और एक वर्ष के लिए निलंबित करने की बात कही गई। परिवार ने उनके साथ पहले भी जातिगत भेदभाव और संस्थागत प्रताड़ना किए जाने की भी बात कही है।

18 सितंबर की शाम करीब 6 बजे साहिल ने आत्महत्या कर ली। इसके कुछ ही समय बाद @iitbombay के छात्र इस घटना से चिंतित होकर कैंपस में एकत्र हुए और कैंडल मार्च निकाला। इसके बाद से छात्र धरने पर बैठे हुए हैं। धरने पर बैठे छात्रों ने अपनी प्रमुख मांगों में IIT के निदेशक और डीन (छात्र मामले) के इस्तीफे, साहिल जी के परिवार को मुआवजा, IIT प्रशासन की सहमति से प्रोफेसर दुल्ला के खिलाफ FIR दर्ज करने, प्रदर्शनकारी छात्रों के खिलाफ किसी भी प्रकार की कार्रवाई न करने और सभी छात्रों के साथ ओपन हाउस बैठक आयोजित करने की मांग रखी है।

हम @EduMinOfIndia से मांग करते हैं कि घटनाक्रम से जुड़े सभी CCTV फुटेज, परीक्षा संबंधी रिकॉर्ड और अन्य साक्ष्यों को तत्काल सुरक्षित किया जाए। सभी संबंधित लोगों के बयान दर्ज किए जाएं और पूरे मामले की निष्पक्ष एवं समयबद्ध जांच कराई जाए। जांच में जो भी दोषी पाया जाए, उसके खिलाफ कानून के अनुसार कठोर कार्रवाई हो।

देश के प्रतिष्ठित उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों में छात्रों के साथ जातिगत भेदभाव, अपमान या किसी भी प्रकार की संस्थागत प्रताड़ना की कोई जगह नहीं होनी चाहिए। छात्रों की शिकायतों और सुरक्षा से जुड़े मामलों में संस्थानों की जवाबदेही सुनिश्चित की जानी चाहिए।

इस दुःख की घड़ी में हमारी गहरी संवेदनाएँ साहिल के शोकाकुल माता-पिता और पूरे परिवार के साथ हैं। प्रकृति उन्हें इस अपार दुःख को सहने की शक्ति दे।

Result: voices of suicide prevention experts are drowned in the cacophony.
