Five-month-old kitten “Mae West” underwent rigorous training in Georgia before being fitted with a special harness and chute to become a para-cat. In 1954, she made an impressive 37 jumps from a plane. Interestingly, the British military actually deployed para-cats in Malaysia. They dropped “Ginger” and “Sambo” in crates to a rodent-infested garrison in the jungle. The success of this mission led to “Operation Cat Drop,” during which dozens of cats were parachuted into areas overrun with rats.
