The Class A tournament should be very entertaining again this year with a large number of teams having the potential to take the championship, but St. Mary's returns their top 4 scorers, including one of the highest-scoring players in MN, in jrs @NDSUwbb commit @mmathiowetz3 (5'7"--33.6ppg, 8.3rpg, 4.7apg, 5.4spg) & Brynne Ibberson (5'8"--8.7ppg), soph Olivia Schieffert (5'8"--13.9ppg, 6.0rpg, 5.4apg), & sr @nataliebfischer (5'6"--9.4ppg). St. Mary's is in Section 2. [Mathiowetz earned MGBCA Class A All-State.]

MACCRAY (25-6) lost to West Central (26-6, #9) in the state championship game. They return all but 2 players from last year's team, including a high-scoring pair in srs @MinnStWBB commit @brielle_jans (6'1"--27.6ppg, 12.6rpg, 6.1apg, 4.8spg, 1.7bpg) & @emma_thein47376 (6'--15.1ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.1bpg). MACCRAY is in Section 3 with Hills-Beaver Creek (23-7). [Janssen earned MGBCA Class A All-State.]
Mayer Lutheran (@mayerlutheran )
Mayer Lutheran (27-5, #4) lost to MACCRAY by 4 in a state quarterfinal before beating Sacred Heart (24-8) and dropping a 1-pt decision to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (27-5) to finish 6th. They return all but 1 player from last year's squad, including their top 4 scorers in srs @Clara_Keaveny (5'9"--18.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 5.8apg, 4.3spg), @KeavenyIzzy (5'9"--16.4ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.3apg, 3.2spg), & Avery Arvig (5'10"--8.2ppg), & jr Hallie Hunter (6'--11.3ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.2bpg). Mountain Iron-Buhl (26-4, #2) lost to Cromwell-Wright (25-6) in a sectional final. They return their entire roster from last season, all but 3 of whom were underclassmen or middle schoolers, including sr @uwswbb commit @thomas2aniyah (5'4"--12.1ppg, 3.1apg, 3.1spg), jrs @annaneyens27 (5'6"--15.9ppg, 3.3apg), @SamiWarwas (5'9"--9.8ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.2apg) & @Paige_norman09 (6'--9.6ppg, 5.8rpg), soph @izzy_wiita (5'7"--12.3ppg, 4.0apg, 3.0spg), & fr @Thomas4Farrah (5'9"--7.7ppg). MIB has reached state 14 of the last 16 years and will be a heavy favorite in Section 7 this year.

Hills-Beaver Creek (23-7) lost to eventual state runner-up MACCRAY (25-6) in a sectional championship game. No statistics are available for H-BC, however they return all but 2 players from last year's team, including srs @MMULancersWBB commit @ESammons94875 (6'), @Abbie_Harriss (5'6") & @izzzywyong (5'11"), & jr @oliviadeelstra (6'). They have plenty of height with sr Jayden Kueter (6'2") & jr @AvaSteinhoff (6') also on the roster. H-BC will once again be in Section 3 with MACCRAY.
Kelliher/Northome (@SchoolKelliher )
Kelliher/Northome (26-4, #6) lost to Sacred Heart (24-8) in a sectional final. They return all but 3 points from last season, including a trio of double-digit scorers in srs Kate Thayer (5'4"--25.8ppg, 9.4rpg, 4.4apg, 7.0spg), Kylee Binkley (5'7"--22.7ppg, 7.8rpg, 4.9apg, 5.9spg), & Allison Lundin (5'4"--13.9ppg, 5.5rpg, 5.2apg). K/N is in Section 8 with Sacred Heart and Climax/Fisher (8-19). [Thayer and Binkley earned MGBCA Class A All-State HM.]
Spring Grove (@sg_gbb )
Spring Grove (22-6) lost in a sectional semifinal to Grand Meadow (25-3). They return 8 of their top 9 scorers, including 3 double-digit scorers in srs @SiriKonkel (5'3"--14.1ppg), @KylieHammel (5'9"--13.7ppg), & @ksoiney23 (5'10"--13.5ppg). Spring Grove is co-oped with Mabel-Canton again this year & will be in Section 1, where defending sectional champion Goodhue (26-6, #1) has moved up to Class AA.
West Lutheran (@WestLutheran )
West Lutheran (20-8) lost in a sectional semifinal to conference rival United Christian (18-8). They return their top 5 scorers and 10 of their top 11 scorers, including a high-scoring pair of guards in sr @MarissaTusler (5'8"--21.1ppg, 9.9rpg, 5.2apg, 4.1spg) & soph @VedaMakepeace (5'4"--15.6ppg). They will once again be in Section 4 with conference rivals Mayer Lutheran (27-5, #4) and United Christian (who combined to hand them 5 of their 8 losses last season).

Hillcrest Lutheran
Hillcrest Lutheran (24-5, #10) was upset in a sectional semifinal by Underwood (24-6), a team that they had beaten twice by double-digits in conference play. No statistics are available, but they return sophs @ElsaRetzlaff10 (5'9") & Aaveah Stender (5'11"), & 8th grader @ElinRetzlaff (5'9"). In addition, sr @EllaKnutson2026 (5'8") returns to provide senior leadership. They will once again be in Section 6 with Underwood and state champion West Central (26-6, #9). [Knutson earned MGBCA Class A All-State HM.]
Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart (24-8) reached a state quarterfinal before dropping a 4-pt OT decision to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's (30-4, #5) and a consolation semifinal to Mayer Lutheran (27-5, #4). Minimal statistics are available, but it appears that they started 4 or 5 sophomores throughout the year and, in their 2 games at state, all of their points were scored by sophomores and freshmen, led by a pair of 6-footers in current jrs @alexisann_21 (6') & Lydia Riskey (6'). Sacred Heart is in Section 8 with Climax/Fisher (8-19) and Kelliher/Northome (26-4, #6))
YGT HM:
Climax/Fisher
Climax/Fisher (8-19) lost 54-47 in a round of 32 sectional game with Stephen-Argyle (9-17). They return their entire roster from last season and 10 of their 12 players were underclassmen or middle schoolers last year, including a pair of double-digit scorers in current jr Lucy Paulsrud (5'7"--14.9ppg, 1.6bpg) & 8th grader Brooklyn Hoffman (13.1ppg, 9.1rpg). In addition, they will receive a big boost from the return of soph @PeytonHoffman24 (6'--INJ (25.8ppg, 15.1rpg, 5.0spg, 2.4bpg as 8th grader)), who missed her freshman year due to injury. Climax/Fisher is in Section 8 with Kelliher/Northome (26-4, #6) and Sacred Heart (24-8).
