Spent the day at the PFF Women's Football Symposium in Islamabad. Really encouraged by what I heard. Mejzgaan, a former player and (Fulbright scholar) walked us through how other federations have built women's football from the ground up, and PFF President Mohsin Gilani laid out a proper roadmap. A proper structure, pathways and timelines.
The highlight for me was meeting so many women's national team players. These women have had almost no support and yet still made it to this level. They deserve a real system. A real league.
Morocco built one. Bangladesh built one. Even Saudi Arabia built one. Pakistan has the talent and the youth population. All that's missing is the commitment to actually build it.
Hoping this was the start of that ππΌ
Devastated to hear about the passing of Najam. A highly professional & reliable scorer who set the gold standard. He played a significant part in the growth of my generation of cricket journalists in the 90s & inspired future scorers. The Lahore press box will never be the same.
Alhamdulillah, by the immense grace of Allah, I have survived a major heart attack. The hardest part is over, but the road to recovery starts now. Ap sab ki duaoon ki ba-had zaroorat hai. Please keep me in your prayers. π
This is the kind of job that requires considerable mediation skills where you need to make every loser feel like he's a winner of some kind π
Thankfully @Samiburney has years of experience on that front, a lot of patience and an eye for the bigger picture.
One of the best in the business.
@Samiburney@dawn_com@LA28@TheRealPCB@ICC This is pleasantly surprising news, but actually not so surprising, given your career graph. Bahut mubarak. And all the best.
