The Samizdat Eastern European Film Festival (@SamizdatFilm) kicked off in Glasgow last night and we’re bringing the festival to you!
Starting tomorrow, don’t miss our Images from the Edge: Hungarian Animations from the 1980s series—a collection of quirky and captivating short films. Featuring the works of renowned artists Dóra Kereszte, István Orosz, and Katálin Macskassy, these three animated shorts dive into the creative tensions of Hungary’s final decade under communism, capturing a world on the verge of transformation.

A selection of titles will be screened online via @Klassiki_Online from 3-24 October.

This month, we’re thrilled to present a fantastic selection of features and short films from Glasgow’s Samizdat Film Festival (@SamizdatFilm), alongside a gorgeous documentary on Soviet architecture and a special Halloween surprise film!
We kick off with A PICTURE TO REMEMBER (2023), Olga Chernykh’s powerful look at the Ukraine war through three generations of women and Grigori Kromanov’s cult sci-fi horror DEAD MOUNTAINEER’S HOTEL (1979). In partnership with Samizdat Eastern European Film Festival 2024, we’ll be showcasing exceptional experimental animated shorts from 1980s Hungary, capturing a society on the edge of change (from 3 October).
