On a recent afternoon in Nairobi's Upper Hill, hospital workers, patients, students and office employees moved steadily along a newly paved footpath near Kenyatta National Hospital. Few paused to notice anything unusual about the neat rows of cabro blocks beneath their feet.

At first glance, the walkway looks like thousands of others across Kenya. But this one is different. Hidden inside the concrete blocks is carbon dioxide that was once floating in the atmosphere.
