President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu urge CSOs to partner government, put Nigeria first.

President Bola Tinubu @officialasiwajubat has urged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to move beyond activism and become stronger partners in national development, saying their role should extend beyond criticising government to actively contributing to nation-building. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the National Civil Society Organisations Summit 2026 in Lagos, the President said his administration remains open to constructive criticism that promotes accountability, transparency and good governance.

Tinubu described CSOs as “co-architects of national development” and called for deeper collaboration in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda. He identified food security, poverty reduction, governance and human capital development as priority areas for partnership, while urging stakeholders to support climate-smart agriculture, environmental protection, renewable energy and the blue economy to drive economic growth and job creation.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stressed that government and civil society must work together to address insecurity, economic challenges, youth empowerment and misinformation. He described CSOs as essential to democracy and urged both sides to embrace fairness, objectivity and constructive dialogue in the national interest.

The summit also featured the unveiling of a new framework by the Director-General of the Civil Society Coalition for Humanitarian Initiatives (CSCHI), Mr. Kunle Yusuff, to strengthen cybersecurity, data protection and operational standards within the civil society sector. Speaking at the event, UN Women Nigeria’s Deputy Country Representative, Patience Ekeoba, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting CSOs through technical assistance and capacity building to improve development outcomes and advance the rights of women and girls.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road, a key project connecting parts of Abeokuta North and South Local Government Areas. The road is part of his administration’s broader effort to improve infrastructure and stimulate economic growth across Ogun State. He noted that the newly completed corridor is already enhancing mobility and boosting commercial activities, especially during nighttime. To further support businesses and security, solar streetlights will be installed along the route. The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to sustained road development, revealing that about 26 more roads are lined up for commissioning in the coming months.
