One thing about boygenius is they remember a core premise being a band is “what if you could make ‘having an awesome friend group’ your project and your job?”

@seanmccoy There was a technical manual style in a lot of those 90s sci-fi RPGs that was really effective in cultivating, I dunno, gravitas or something. They never quite felt like fiction.
Was reading through the Mothership 1e pdfs last night and am increasingly convinced the layout is explicitly riffing on old Battletech books. @seanmccoy I must know if it's true!
@seanmccoy Fair enough — regardless, it feels continuous with my favorite 90s sci-fi rpg texts in a way that I really appreciate and it's an aspect of the Mothership layout work that I haven't seen mentioned much, compared to the more obviously bold stuff in the modules!
@Jesseabe @LukeGearing it's funny because of all the breathless D&D PR articles that came out like 5-8 years ago raving about how "Finally, people are gathering in person, putting down their phones, and actually interacting!" I think that might've literally been how I learned about Putnam
