H.E. Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows:

On May 14, 2026, several Thai media outlets continued to disseminate baseless allegations accusing Cambodian forces of 'firing M79 grenade launchers at Thai military positions in the area opposite Veal Intri in Preah Vihear Province.' The Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia completely and categorically rejects these accusations, which are entirely devoid of evidence.
The Ministry of National Defence views these publications as deliberate misinformation and a serious distortion of facts intended to incite confusion, mislead public opinion, and escalate tensions along the border. Such false reporting is unacceptable, as it impugns the honor of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and poses a direct risk to the security, stability, and safety of the border region. We demand that the media outlets involved issue an immediate and formal correction.

In response to this disinformation campaign, the Command Post of Information of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has issued a formal letter of protest to the Thai Joint Information Center (JIC). Furthermore, reports from the frontline indicate that during the inaugural mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT)—conducted under the Philippine Chairmanship to observe, verify and report on the situation of the Preah Vihear Temple World Heritage Site—the Thai side detonated three pieces of unexploded ordnance (UXO) without prior notification to the Cambodian side. In response to this breach of protocol, the Military Region 4 Liaison Team immediately contacted their Thai counterparts and lodged a formal protest regarding the unannounced detonations.

The Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence calls on the Thai side to immediately cease the publication of misleading information and return to the faithful implementation of all existing agreements. Only through such honesty can we ensure a rapid recovery and the restoration of normalcy, peace, stability, and long-term security along the border.

The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.
