I will once again restate my position on the ongoing illegality in Osun State local governments. The self-awarded tenure of APC chairmen expired on 22 October 2025 and cannot be extended under the Constitution.

Local government autonomy does not mean unelected individuals with expired tenure can occupy council secretariats or handle public funds meant for workers. Filing a court case does not equal tenure elongation.

Once tenure expires, authority ends. The police should not provide cover for illegality.

We are paying local government workers because autonomy must never mean hardship. Using Mr. President’s name to justify illegality is unacceptable.

This must stop. Democracy must be protected.

#JusticeforAkinlalu: Osun Police counter Amotekun over killing of three residents, reveals how Amotekun Corps invaded the community

Today 30th September, 2025 at about 1320hrs, information received from Chief Oyebamiji Kamorudeen of Akinlalu that, members of Western security network also known as Amotekun came in large numbers and invaded Akinlalu community with their two official patrol and one private vehicles in retaliation for the two pump action guns earlier allegedly snatched from their operatives by yet to be identified person(s). During the invasion, they shot sporadically which caused serious bullet injuries on the following people namely: Adeagbo Kadijat 'f' 22yrs, Oke-Ila Oyebamiji 'f' 60yrs and Fayomi Toheeb 'm' 19yrs. It was further alleged that, three persons lost their lives during the shooting, namely: Ibrahim Oyebamiji (m), 26yrs, Sefiu Oyebamiji (m) and Abiola Olutayo (m)
and their corpses were taken away by Amotekun operatives.

On receipt of the report, Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the area, recovered thirteen (13) expended cartridges, and evacuated the injured victims to hospitals for medical treatment. The situation, which initially generated tension, was brought under control by the police as angry residents were persuaded not to take laws into their own hands.

In a separate statement, the Amotekun Corps claimed that its operatives were first ambushed by armed hoodlums while responding to a distress call from Akinlalu residents. The Corps reported that during the ambush, two service rifles were snatched.
Amotekun further stated that reinforcement operatives dispatched to the scene came under heavy gunfire at a barricaded junction into Akinlalu, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire lasting over an hour. According to their account, three suspected attackers lost their lives, arrests were made, and the stolen firearms were recovered from a hideout.
Given the conflicting reports, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo, which is the apex criminal investigative body within the state for a discreet and thorough investigation.

All claims and counterclaims — including allegations of murder, assault occasioning harm, gun snatching, wounding, and impersonation — will be carefully verified to establish facts and ensure justice.

The Command urges residents of Akinlalu and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding. Tactical teams have been reinforced in the area to maintain peace and prevent breakdown of law and order.

The Osun State Police Command remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and upholding the rule of law. Members of the public are encouraged to provide credible information that can assist the ongoing investigation.
