The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed profound sadness over the death of prominent Niger State political figure, community leader and philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora.
The Minister described the late Wali as a close associate, trusted friend and distinguished son of Niger State whose life was marked by generosity, loyalty and an abiding commitment to the progress of his people.
��I have received with profound sadness the news of the passing of my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora. His death is a deeply personal loss to me and a painful one for the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” the Minister said.
Idris said the late Garkuwan Kontagora distinguished himself through years of service to his community, using his influence and resources to support people and advance causes that improved lives.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Wali was a man of the people in the truest sense. He understood that privilege and influence carried a responsibility to uplift others. He touched many lives through his philanthropy, support for education, empowerment of the less privileged and commitment to the development of his community.
“As Garkuwan Kontagora, he carried his traditional responsibility with dignity and devotion. He remained deeply connected to the aspirations of the people and was a respected voice on matters affecting Kontagora Emirate and Niger State.
“I will personally miss his friendship, his counsel, his warmth and his remarkable ability to build bridges across different segments of society. We have lost a dependable friend and a patriot who genuinely desired the progress of his people,” said Idris.
The Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora and the entire Kontagora Emirate, as well as the government and people of Niger State.
He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late Garkuwan Kontagora, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family and all those affected by the loss the fortitude to bear his passing.

This week I received a courtesy visit from a Kebbi State Government delegation, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed.
He was accompanied by the Governor’s media team, comprising the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali; Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki; Special Adviser, New Media, Aliyu Bandado; Special Adviser, Strategic Communication, Abdullahi Zuru; and the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Ahmed Idris.
In my remarks I acknowledged the special role played by the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, during the minimum wage negotiations between the federal government and the labour unions. A distinguished unionist and activist, he’s a former National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and National Deputy President of the NLC.
He has demonstrated commendable leadership in the State, and sustained Kebbi’s agriculture revolution, fueled by active players and investors like GB Foods.
I assured the delegation that President Tinubu’s administration will continue to support every State Government to deliver the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians. His bold fiscal reforms have since stabilized the economy and multiplied the resources available to subnational governments.
And in Kebbi State, the Sokoto - Badagry Superhighway is one of several federal projects that will transform the landscape and bring prosperity to many.
HOMELAND SECURITY: FG COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING COORDINATION FOR PEACE, NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT - INFORMATION MINISTER
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening coordination among security agencies, government institutions, communities and citizens to promote peace, security and national development.
The Minister stated this on Thursday when the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa (Rtd.), paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja.
Idris welcomed the visit, describing the engagement as an important opportunity to deepen understanding of the mandate of the newly established Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security and strengthen collaboration in communicating security policies and initiatives to Nigerians.
“Peace and security are essential elements; in fact, they are the building blocks of any development that can happen anywhere,” the Minister said.
He stressed that Nigeria’s security challenges could not be addressed through military action alone, but required closer collaboration among the armed forces, security agencies, government at all levels, communities, the media and the general public.
“You cannot shoot yourself out of this problem. Security requires collaboration between the security agencies, the armed forces and the general public,” Idris said.
The Minister highlighted the grassroots reach of the National Orientation Agency and other agencies under the Ministry, noting their important role in strengthening community resilience, promoting responsible citizenship and ensuring that citizens receive accurate and timely information.
He also identified fake news, misinformation and disinformation as emerging national security challenges, stressing the need for responsible communication and greater media and information literacy.
The Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa (Rtd.), said the visit was aimed at building a strong working relationship with the Ministry, describing information and public education as critical components of modern homeland security. He said the office would focus on unified intelligence and surveillance, stronger border security, improved identification of security threats, and effective protocols for reporting and responding to crises.
“Information is key in asymmetric warfare. The first person to speak wins, and we cannot sit back and allow others to shape perception for us,” Famadewa said.
The Minister assured the Special Adviser of the Ministry’s full cooperation, saying stronger coordination, effective communication and active citizen participation would support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a safer, more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Yesterday, at the State House, the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) decorated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Grand Patron of the Union.
It was a pleasure to witness this, during the President’s meeting with national executives of the Union, led by its National Executive President, Comrade (Dr.) Salimon Akanni Oladiti.
Various issues were discussed, including the nation’s refineries, the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the inspiring legacy of former NUPENG president, the late Frank Kokori, a friend of President Tinubu and close associate in the fight for democracy.
NUPENG thanked the President for his bold fiscal reforms and massive infrastructural drive. On the ambitious road projects across the country, the NUPENG leader told the President, “Every stretch of highway rehabilitated or constructed means fewer accidents, fewer spillages, fewer lives lost, and less stress for the men behind the wheels. Mr President, that is a reform our members feel in their bones, and for it we say thank you because our tanker drivers and other road users are already seeing the benefits of the rehabilitation and construction of federal highways.”
I received the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa (Rtd.), at @FMINONigeria headquarters (Radio House), yesterday, on a courtesy visit with his team.
Security is a collective and multifaceted effort, and President Tinubu’s administration is very clear about the fact that we cannot shoot our way out of Nigeria’s security challenges. Kinetic action is vital and necessary, but not enough by itself.
We must strengthen our security architecture and build national resilience through institutional reform as well as improved collaboration between the security agencies and the public.
A lot of effort has gone into these under President Tinubu, and we are already seeing the positive results - with our international partners also attesting to our progress.
At @FMINONigeria we have the National Orientation Agency @NOA_Nigeria, with its extensive grassroots presence across Nigeria, as well as various public information agencies @NgNewsAgency @radionigeriahq @voiceofnigeria, and the broadcast regulator @nbcgovng - all deeply committed to strengthening community resilience, disseminating accurate information, tackling disinformation, and helping cultivate responsible citizenship.

MATAWALLE LEADS DELEGATION TO EGYPTIAN DEFENCE INDUSTRY FACILITIES
...Says Visit Will Strengthen Bilateral Defence Cooperation and Boost Local Production
The Honourable Minister of State for Defence H.E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON led a high-level Nigerian defence delegation on a two-day visit to key defence industry establishments in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The visit is part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to deepen bilateral defence cooperation, advance indigenous defence production, and strengthen the country’s long-term defence industrial capabilities.
The delegation comprised representatives from the Ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters, DHQ, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, as well as a representative of the Director-General, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation toured the manufacturing facilities of Eagle International for Defence Systems Company in Suez. The visit provided the Nigerian team the opportunity to examine a range of defence systems and equipment manufactured by the Egyptian company, and to gain first-hand insight into Egypt’s growing defence production capabilities and industrial processes.
Speaking during the tour, Dr. Matawalle stated that the visit was strategic and developmental in character, rather than focused on immediate procurement.
He noted that Nigeria’s principal objective was to explore avenues for a sustainable industrial partnership that would enable the two countries to work collaboratively, particularly through DICON, towards the joint manufacture of selected military equipment and systems.
According to the Minister, such collaboration would strengthen Nigeria’s indigenous production capacity, develop specialised technical expertise, expand local content, and facilitate the transfer of relevant defence technologies and industrial knowledge to Nigeria.
On the second day, the delegation had a high-level engagement with the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production in Cairo. Discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, particularly the prospects for establishing an ammunition production line in Nigeria through structured technical and industrial cooperation.
Both sides expressed strong interest in advancing the proposed collaboration and working towards the conclusion of appropriate formal agreements to provide the necessary framework for its implementation.
The proposed initiative aligns with Nigeria’s strategic objective of achieving greater self-reliance in critical defence production, reducing dependence on external sources, and strengthening the country’s capacity to sustainably meet the equipment and operational requirements of its Armed Forces.
Since his appointment, Dr. Matawalle has remained committed to advancing the Federal Government’s vision of developing a modern and robust military-industrial complex in Nigeria, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The vision seeks to strengthen national defence self-reliance, enhance national security, promote indigenous innovation and technological development, create economic opportunities, and position defence industrialisation as a catalyst for broader national development.
The visit to Egypt therefore represents another significant step towards translating this vision into practical and sustainable partnerships capable of delivering measurable improvements in Nigeria’s defence industrial capacity.
The Ministry of Defence appreciates the warm reception and constructive engagements extended by its Egyptian counterparts throughout the visit, and remains confident that the emerging areas of cooperation will yield enduring strategic benefits for both countries.
The Ministry further looks forward to continued engagements with relevant Egyptian defence institutions towards the development of concrete frameworks that will strengthen bilateral defence relations, promote technology and knowledge transfer, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s quest for a self-reliant, resilient and technologically advanced defence industrial base.

It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to this important occasion, the inauguration of the newly constituted Advertising Offenses Tribunal.
Today marks another significant step in the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the regulatory framework of Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry, promote professionalism and integrity, and ensure that the industry continues to contribute meaningfully to our national development.
The Federal Government recognizes that advertising is far more than the promotion of products and services. It is a powerful instrument of communication.
Nigeria has one of Africa’s largest and most dynamic advertising and marketing communications ecosystems, with enormous potential to contribute to economic growth, employment, innovation, and investment.
The enactment of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act No. 23 of 2022 was a major milestone in this direction. The Act replaced the former Advertising Practitioners (Registration, Etc.) Act and established ARCON as the successor to the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria.
More importantly, the new law expanded ARCON's mandate and powers, including the authority to prosecute offenses established under the Act, relevant regulations, and codes.
It is within this broader regulatory framework that the Advertising Offenses Tribunal assumes its importance.
Section 37(1) of the ARCON Act establishes the Tribunal to adjudicate offenses created under the Act, the Code of Advertising Practice, Standards of Practice, proclamations, and other relevant enactments made under the law.
The establishment of the Tribunal reflects a clear legislative intention: that offenses within the advertising ecosystem should be addressed through a specialized mechanism capable of delivering justice efficiently, fairly, and without unnecessary delay.
It will help ensure that the rules governing advertising are not merely written on paper but can be meaningfully applied when violations occur. This is essential for protecting consumers, promoting fair competition, strengthening professional standards, and maintaining public confidence in the industry.
Following the expiration of the three-year tenure of the first panel of the Advertising Offenses Tribunal in May 2026, the incoming panel was duly nominated and appointed in accordance with the provisions of the law.
I am particularly pleased that the new panel brings together individuals with considerable experience in the judiciary, legal practice, advertising, broadcasting, and marketing communications.
The Chairman, Honourable Justice Cecilia M. A. Olatoregun, is a Judge Emeritus of the Federal High Court with more than four decades of post-call experience. Having previously served as the Tribunal's inaugural Chairman, she brings invaluable judicial experience and institutional knowledge to this new assignment.
The members of the Tribunal — Musa Ahmed Attah, SAN; Merga Tyowanan Kachina, Esq.; Dr. Ken Onyeali Ikpe, FRPA; and Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, RPA—also bring distinguished professional backgrounds spanning law, arbitration, advertising, marketing communications, broadcasting, and public service.
Collectively, they possess the experience, professional competence, and institutional understanding required for this important responsibility. I congratulate each of you on your appointment.
I therefore urge the Chairman and members of the Tribunal to discharge your responsibilities with the highest standards of integrity, independence, fairness, and professionalism.
Every matter that comes before you should be considered on its merits, without fear or favour, affection or ill will. The Tribunal must be, and must be seen to be, a fair and impartial institution.
To the Chairman and members of the Tribunal, I urge you to see this appointment not merely as an honour, but as a call to service. Your experience has brought you to this point. Your integrity will define your tenure.

“The picture today is that when you took office in 2023, the total value of stocks listed in Nigeria was just shy of N30 trillion. Today, Mr President, that figure is N160 trillion. PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS EFCC TO VACATE THE COURT ORDER FREEZING OSUN GOVERNMENT ACCOUNT
It has come to my notice that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) obtained a court order on August 5, 2026, freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government. I must state that I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC's exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency's action. This is so because every action taken by an institution of State, especially at the Federal level, is always credited to me, as the President, even when I may not have had any prior knowledge of the action.
Since assuming office, I have consistently maintained that anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies must be allowed to discharge their statutory responsibilities independently, professionally, without fear or favour, or political interference. I have therefore deliberately refrained from directing or interfering in the operational activities of the EFCC or any other investigative or prosecutorial agency because I firmly believe that strong democratic institutions, operating within the confines of the law, are indispensable to democratic good governance and the rule of law.
As President, I am committed to allowing institutions of State to function and take any action they consider necessary in the interest of proper governance without the need for any prior approval. Indeed, that is why institutions are set up by law with clearly defined powers. While I am yet to be fully apprised of the facts which informed the action of EFCC in approaching the court to obtain the said order freezing the Osun State Government account, I am not in the slightest doubt that the timing of the action of EFCC is inauspicious, and therefore I feel compelled to intervene.
Osun State is only a few days away from its gubernatorial election. Therefore, nothing ought to be done to give an impression that the EFCC or indeed any other agency of the federal government is being used to interfere with the election.
Based on the foregoing premise, I am duty-bound to issue a directive on this issue in consonance with the overriding public interest in preserving public confidence and the integrity, credibility, and fairness of our democratic process.
Accordingly, I have directed the EFCC to immediately proceed to the court to vacate the order and discontinue whatever action it has instituted against the Osun State Government in this regard.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
