Imagine if 10 years ago you were approached by a time traveler and he was like "Look, I don't have much time to explain, all I can tell you is that the year 2020 is going to be an absolute shit show. You know Donald Trump, the star of the apprentice? (1/7)
Industry recognition can get you gigs & open doors, I get it. Regardless - not having to work a shitty menial job, having fans that buy tickets & merch, paying bills thru your art; that’s an award in itself. Getting to live that life in any capacity is the true award.
Music is not a sport. There is no point system, there is no rule book. The act of ranking or determining any kind of hierarchy therein is purely subjective & relies on personal discretion & opinion. Whatever resonates with you is best - approval from “experts” is irrelevant.
The concept of “awards” for art is inherently flawed bc it asserts that there’s an absolute measurable system of value attached to the act of creative expression. A judges panel of industry elite don’t get to validate or invalidate creativity - no person does. All art has value.
I would add, it’s often a matter of just getting that one right person to hear that one song - you might already have the song in your bag, but the right person hasn’t heard it yet. I wrote and recorded the 1st demo of “Soon Never Comes” in 2011, it got me a deal in ‘15-‘16.
