Trust God when you don’t understand. He opens doors and He closes doors. It won’t always make sense. You’ll be tempted to hold on, “Why did this happen? It’s not fair.” Let it go. Trust that He has your best interest at heart.
His purpose is at work. You may not understand it right now, but you can trust that God knows what He’s doing. You will see, what you thought was a setback, was really setting you up for greater things. Don’t fight everything you don’t like. Live at rest knowing that God’s purpose will prevail.
Artists / Managers: artist development has become a lost art in the modern music industry.
Here's how you can implement it into your shows and performances:
Claim it: MUSIC IS MY FULL TIME CAREER. MUSIC IS TAKING ME AROUND THE WORLD. MUSIC IS ALLOWING ME AND MY FAMILY TO LIVE DEBT FREE. MUSIC IS HOW I CHANGE LIVES.
Just because God gives you a dream, gives you a promise, doesn’t mean you can sit back and be passive. You have to go and possess it. You have to take steps of faith. That’s when you’re going to see God step in and do things that you couldn’t do.
one time No ID said “if you put 3 people in a studio for 5 hours and they come out later saying ‘we made a vibe’ that means they fucked up. you were supposed to make a SONG”
All the publishing and deal talk lately made me think that I should orient us on what a standard music recording contract looks like, what each section means, why labels structure it that way, and what to push back on before signing. This is what the lawyers negotiate.
A Thread
Believe in the shared vision, but still read the contract. Trust the energy, but still check the numbers. Build from spirit, but execute with discipline.
Working with a vocal coach. Improving as a vocalist. Working with songwriters. Improving as a songwriter. Developing a “sound.” Developing an identity. Developing a brand. Creating the music. Creating a 6-12 month go to market plan. Identifying target brands and partners. Etc.
Young artists: you don’t have to give up ownership of your publishing. A co-pub deal gives a publisher an ownership stake in your songs. All you need is an admin deal, which allows the publisher to collect your royalties for a fee. You maintain 100% ownership.
if you’re an up coming artist, you should listen to your gut. but that also comes with taking accountability for YOUR role in why nothing you’re doing is working. being set in your ways when your ways have been tried long enough to realize “there must be a different way” is just ego. lotta times the reward is in the reroute. best of luck 🥂
The music industry is complicated by design. The language is confusing. The rules are re-written. And a lot of people benefit when you’re too embarrassed to ask.
Artists upload music through DistroKid, TuneCore, UnitedMasters, Too Lost, CD Baby and think they’re collecting everything…You’re not
Distributors only collect PART of your royalties & there’s multiple royalty streams. If you don’t register properly, money gets left unclaimed
Don’t be intimidated by the size of your dream. He’s the one who put it in your heart. Those things God whispered to you that you haven’t told anyone about, it seems so unlikely that you don’t see how it could ever happen. God wouldn’t have spoken that to you if He didn’t have a way to bring it to pass. All He needs is for you to come into agreement. Dare to ask Him.
