What happens when shame no longer stays within the village… but is amplified for the world to see?
Algorithm of Shame: In the Village, Everybody Knows is a powerful Pacific-led documentary set in Fiji that exposes the devastating impact of online shaming in the age of social media, where algorithms reward outrage, humiliation, and exposure without care or accountability.
Through the courageous stories of Rhonda, a trans woman fighting to protect her community after losing a close friend to relentless online abuse, and Lynda, a politician rebuilding her life after a private video leak led to public shaming and the loss of her role as Minister for Women, this documentary shines a light on resilience, humanity, and the urgent need for compassion in digital spaces.
This is more than a documentary; it is a conversation Fiji needs to have.
The film is funded by the Ministry of Pacific Peoples (New Zealand) in collaboration with Pacific Media Network. The fund promotes stories that support Pacific languages.
