Yesterday, we gathered to officially open the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre, a haven dedicated to healing, protection, and justice, located at Aba General Hospital. As a mother, advocate, and Chairperson of the Abia State GBV Committee, this moment was truly special for me. The centre offers survivors immediate medical care, forensic documentation, psychosocial support, legal guidance, and coordinated follow-up, all within a safe and confidential environment.
The Federal Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Honourable Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, officially commissioned the centre, and I appreciate my husband's presence and support. I extend sincere appreciation to the European Union, the implementing partner Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC), and International IDEA for their support in strengthening justice delivery systems. I also thank other stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioners for Justice, Women Affairs, Health, and Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, for their dedication to this cause.
Earlier, I launched the Sexual Offender Register at the Abia State Ministry of Justice, a tool for prevention, accountability, and hope for survivors. These milestones mark our collective commitment to justice and ending impunity in Abia State.
