A lunchtime breeze gives
Lift for a flagging flag.
Where’s the wind of peace?
The wind lifts all flags.
Winds of peace lift all nations.
Where’s the wind of peace?
Unseen forces are
Like the invisible breeze.
They are wind of peace.

False: Pres. Nelson said using the word "Mormon" is a "major victory for Satan."
True: Pres. Nelson said "[removing] the Lord’s name from the Lord’s Church is a major victory for Satan."
Very different ideas. The false claim still has life six years later.
@VoteTrevorLee Trevor, do you know the context of what you filmed? Must we all have American flags when we have celebrations? What if this is a religious celebration? Religious freedom is a staple of American democracy. You are giving off strong xenophobic vibes.
@jkimballcook Thanks for sharing. Do you by chance have a link to the source?
I found this in the JSP from 1843: "the Lord has not given me Revelati[o]n conc[e]rning politics.— I have not asked the Lord for it."

“The Constitution offers us the hope of greater unity. We should be cheered by that hope. And we should be profoundly grateful for the glorious fact that we all get to be Americans together.”
A good read 30 pages in.
“The Constitution establishes a politics in which no one is in charge and, therefore, in some sense, everyone is in charge. This requires our political culture to be a culture of negotiation and accommodation.”
—Yuval Levin
“We have grown less capable of dealing with one another because we have embraced and approach to American government that de-emphasizes dealing with one another.”
Alma calls this "murder[ing] against the light" (v. 6). Interestingly, in Alma 36, he had described some of his own earlier behavior this way: "I had murdered many of [God's] children, or rather led them away unto destruction."
All my life, Alma 39:2-6 has been interpreted in the Church as a strong sermon against sexual sin.
Is that right, though? One 1828 Webster def of "harlot" (v. 3) is "one who forsakes the true God and worships idols."
Alma's concern may simply be about abandoning the ministry.
“Whoever falls in love with publicity is not fit to have it and will end up in misery. The honors and privileges that often come as a result of leadership constitute only one side of the picture. The greater privileges, the greater the responsibilities and sacrifices.” —MLK
@TresClare Speaking of love versus power: Last night, I encountered this great paragraph in MLK’s “Stride Toward Freedom.” The movement he’s talking about here is the Montgomery bus boycott.
“It is a very short step from saying ‘My faith is the most important thing there is, therefore everyone must share my faith,’ to ‘since faith is the most important thing there is, everyone should be free to pursue his or her own faith.’” https://t.co/H6JmR3aiCV
In last month's Liahona, I wrote about how associating with and learning from others is a natural outgrowth of being nourished by and sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ. https://t.co/Z7BQpQrgjH
Today, YouTube reminded me of this connected comment from Pres Hinckley (1998).
Part of our team is in London for Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson's speech earlier today at the the 2023 @NDLaw Religious Liberty Summit.
Her remarks were part of a panel on the religious response to autocracy. She said the Church believes in a universal right to free exercise of conscience, operates in countries pursuant to law, is politically neutral & extends respect, care & relief to all people.
