For decades, we’ve marketed a "consumer gospel" come to Jesus so He can fix your life, bless your plans, and keep you comfortable.

​But Christ didn’t call consumers. He called disciples. "Take up your cross" (Luke 9:23) wasn’t a metaphor for having a bad day at work.

To the original audience, it was an instrument of execution.
