I'm not sure how to explain it but there is something about agreeing with a sin in your heart and it keeping you in bondage.
When Paul says reckon yourself dead to sin, that self admission that this deed is not a part of your identity is the beginning of your freedom.
Things like this hurt me, but I cannot sadly object, because many of acclaimed G.O's know nothing about the Gospel, but then the Lord still has faithful men so it may not necessarily be so.
