@elderofziyon He isn't. He is a suspended priest who has no perish. He is in Egypt not in Massachusetts. He is part of a group called Defenders of the Faith that constantly attack His Holiness Pope Tawadros. You mixed him up with the priest in MA who shares same name as you can see in picture
If things had went the way Carter wanted, Egypt would still be negotiating the return of Sinai as part of a joint Arab delegation in a joint American and Soviet sponsored process. Sadat precisely went to the Knesset to break out of the Carter plan.
I have seen a lot of obituaries of Carter that credit him with peace between Egypt and Israel. This is pure nonsense. The Peace Treaty happened not because of Carter, but in spite of Carter.
@ThiloYoung I am happy/or unhappy to confirm that I believe that Syria will not become a liberal democracy that protects freedoms. Not today, not tomorrow, and not in 30 years. But that my friend is a very different discussion, and one that you will find our views not that different.
Watching the videos coming out of Syria, of celebrations, of tragedies discovered, of liberation, and of loss, one cannot but feel utter joy at the end of the rule of savagery that befell Syria over 50 years ago, and a sense of anger at those who allowed this to continue
@ThiloYoung I replied that I had no stomach for such random stuff. That life was too short for this.
That is the argument we were having. Now, if the argument has shifted to something else, for example that Syrians think this will end bad, then I have never argued against that.
@ThiloYoung And the debate is not about Syria’s future. This is not what I wrote nor what the account you shared was about. It was about Syria’s past, about our assessment of Bashar, Ba’ath rule, attitude towards minorities, and the revolution
@ThiloYoung I said I would not waste my time with some random account in India, that is not the same as not listening to Syrians and their concerns. Remember Sam”s Three Tens? :) so obviously what Syrians think has a weight.
