“An Open Letter from UK Medical Professionals on the Criminalisation of Medical Care in Iran
We write as doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals practicing in the United Kingdom to express our grave concern at credible reports emerging from Iran during recent protests.
Multiple independent accounts indicate that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers have been threatened, arrested, imprisoned, and, in some cases, reportedly executed for treating civilians injured during protests. Hospitals have been used as sites of surveillance and arrest. Injured individuals have been detained or killed in their hospital beds, while medical staff have been coerced into withholding care or reporting patients to security forces.
These actions represent a fundamental violation of medical ethics and of the principle of medical neutrality, which requires that the injured be treated without discrimination, intimidation, or fear of reprisal. The sanctity of hospitals as places of care and refuge is a cornerstone of medicine and of humanitarian law. When hospitals are transformed into extensions of the security apparatus, healthcare itself becomes weaponised.
Medical professionals must never be forced to choose between their duty of care and their personal safety. The targeting of clinicians for fulfilling their ethical obligations is not only an assault on individual practitioners, but on the very foundations of medicine.
We are deeply troubled by the apparent lack of sustained and unequivocal public advocacy from the international medical and humanitarian community in response to these reports. Silence in the face of such abuses risks normalising the criminalisation of medical care and undermines the protections that healthcare workers rely upon globally.
As medical professionals, we affirm that:
•The duty to treat the injured is non-negotiable.
•Hospitals must remain safe spaces, free from intimidation and political coercion.
•The persecution of healthcare workers for providing care is unacceptable under any circumstances.
We call upon international medical organisations, human rights bodies, and governments, including the UK government, to publicly condemn these violations, to demand the protection of healthcare workers in Iran, and to seek accountability for those responsible.
The defence of medical neutrality is not a political act. It is a professional and moral obligation.”

As if @J_Klinsmann’s racist comments about Iran was not enough, his explanations before Spain-Germany match at @BBCSport was just disgraceful. Why is he still with you @BBCSport?!😡 Shame
@J_Klinsmann@BBCSport We have not forgotten your lack of sportsmanship and “culture” when celebrating your goal against Iran in 1998 @J_Klinsmann . And now these racist comments. Even if you apologised, it would be a hollow one as deep down you have a race issue! @BBCSport, part ways from @J_Klinsmann
The brave women and young generation in Iran are proving that an uprising against a tyrannical regime can potentially continue without an established leadership structure

Sir David Attenborough, the most noble living man in our time, has been named the “Champion of Earth”, by the UN. My respect and gratitude to this great man, whose insight must be embedded in all the educational systems. #DavidAttenborough#PlanetEarth https://t.co/N551bS8wRM
