We exchanged views on sustainable development, geopolitics and geoeconomics, as well as the wider Caspian region concept, Azerbaijan’s growing role as a middle power, our peace agenda, and the importance of regional ownership. His “Marco Polo – Drive of Peace” initiative, traversing the East-West route by electric vehicles, is an inspiring example of promoting dialogue and connectivity.

A milestone for #Azerbaijan🇦🇿 at the #UN.

In just 11 days, Azerbaijani candidates were elected to three UN human rights treaty bodies, each receiving the votes of over 2/3 of UN membership:

✅ Fuad Zarbiyev — Human Rights Committee (131 votes)
✅ Farid Adilov — Committee on the Rights of the Child (130 votes)
✅ Elgun Safarov — Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (133 votes)

🇦🇿 Azerbaijan will now be represented in 5 of the 10 UN human rights treaty bodies—ranking 2nd (together with China) globally among all UN Member States in terms of national representation.

I had a productive meeting with my French colleague, Bertrand Buchwalter, who is visiting Baku. In the spirit of the phone conversation held last month between President Ilham Aliyev and President Emmanuel Macron, we reviewed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–France bilateral relations. We also exchanged views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
