Firefighters are on scene at Piedmont Av and Berryressa Rd of a multi-vehicle collision. Roads are closed in the immediate area. Use caution around personnel and equipment. @SJPD_PIO
.@SpiritAirlines will begin service to @FlySJC starting June 7th, flying between San Jose and San Diego, Las Vegas, and Dallas. It will be the only "ultra-low-cost" carrier at SJC and hopefully bring prices down among competitors. https://t.co/q3bHWl2SjV via @ThePointsGuy
San Jose tends to benefit at the end of economic booms, after investment heads south from SF. Then the cycle ends as things in SJ get going. Whatever happens, Google united many random parcels under single ownership to allow SJ to aspire to a grand vision.
Happy grand opening day to Đai Thành Supermarket! I’m so glad to see them open a third market in San José just months after opening their second on Tully Rd. I’m even more excited that they’ll be joined shortly by a Lee’s Supermarket just up Capitol Ave. near the Milpitas border.
At the end of the day, we have more that unites us than divides us— I'm excited to continue finding common ground and collaborating to drive the change we need to see on tough issues like homelessness and crime.

The City Manager has signed a Proclamation of Local Emergency and Evacuation Order. The Office of Emergency Management will deploy a long range audio device to give announcements in the area of the City's Central Service Yard. (1/2)
"San Jose is planning for as many as 77,500 new homes over the next decade... the city has designated over 600 sites for new housing. The majority are in downtown and the Diridon Station area, though planners have identified parcels throughout the city." https://t.co/xeB7Z9n8k5
If you live in San Jose's district 8 (Evergreen) or 10 (Almaden), consider applying to fill the city council seats vacated by Supervisor-Elect Sylvia Arenas & Mayor-Elect Matt Mahan. Appointees will serve through 2024. The application is due on 1/2/23.

If -- hypothetically -- the Oakland city council filled vacancies by appointment to impede the mayor-elect's efforts at forming a majority, she could still advance some of her voter-endorsed vision through limited executive powers. No so under San Jose's "weak" mayor system.
NEW: Oakland Mayor-Elect @ShengForOakland tells @KQEDnews Political Breakdown “I am going to keep the police chief. Chief LeRonne Armstrong and I have a pretty strong relationship.”
Full interview with @mlagos + @scottshafer at 6:30pm on @KQED 📻
Amen. A far greater price is paid whenever corners are cut on the democratic process. Let’s hope the next Council has the backbone to get this right. https://t.co/oYAC4PBESH
San Jose City Council voted 7-4 (Jones, Foley, Mahan, Liccardo against) to fill the District 8 & 10 council vacancies by appointment instead of letting residents decide by special election. Mayor Liccardo: “This is a break from precedent and I think this brings shame to our city”
The San Jose City Council is holding a special meeting now to hear public comment and vote on whether to appoint interim councilmembers or hold a special election to fill vacancies in D8 & D10. The meeting is on track to go past midnight. Watch here:

I spent months following people on their journeys through the Bay Area's tiny homes. It was a rocky road for all of them. 1 found housing at the end. The rest are still waiting. @shae_hammond documented it all with amazing photos. @mercnews@EastBayTimes https://t.co/FpEutAKtvn
We need thoughtful leaders who understand the complex challenges California faces and who will work to find dynamic solutions we can unite behind.
I’m honored that the Mercury News and East Bay Times believe I am up to the task. Vote for me by June 7th!

Before April ends, it’s worth pondering if there’s some cosmic leadership trait associated w/being born in April. San José’s Mayor @sliccardo and Vice-Mayor @chappiejones are born in April, as are three of our mayoral candidates: @chavezformayor, @DevDavisCA, and @RaulPeralez. 🤔
I invite you to our March Mayoral Candidate Town Hall. The Town Hall takes place Mon, March 14 at 6:30 pm. The objective of the Town Hall is to pose questions that help voters differentiate perspectives between the several candidates. RSVP here: https://t.co/UuKZifODvP
CA will lift its mask mandate on 2/15 but local jurisdictions can have add’l safety rules. Today Santa Clara County announced that ppl should continue to mask up in indoor public spaces, at least until “the County’s 7-day average of new cases is 550 or below for at least a week.”
