@al3xandra_ct I design my projects/proposals with a very engineering mindset. What is my project design, my goals, outputs, outcomes with any task I undertake and what are my metrics for success! I design stewardship for individual donors similarly. :)

@MLR06161457 I have personally always been interested in children's issues and how we ensure every child has the opportunity to quality education that will set them up for future success - C@R was a natural fit - I loved the idea of systems change - getting to the root cause of problems!

@lindleyjr I've thought about this - I think I'd definitely want to do something at least at the community level to start with - maybe school board? Still need more knowledge and experience though!

@pilcrowpusher Every day is different! I write grants, I meet with donors, I strategize on new prospects, and sometimes I sit on the flower and help my events manager make centerpieces for the gala. Life's never dull I'll tell you that!

@TolarShelby It depends on the role. For Development, I look at resumes from all sorts of background - ultimately I am looking for soft skills that will help the applicant be successful in the nonprofit space.

@Brittan20447985 It depends on how small/big your nonprofit is and how high that ladder is. I reached Director level in 4 years but we are a small shop and now I am just on away from CDO. But at a large hospital development team for example, it will take me a lot longer.

@lindleyjr Think of what type of mentor you may want - what type of experience, what type of nonprofit, and even what type of development you are interested in and look through some target nonprofits in the area or via LinkedIN. Look out for networking events as they open up more.

@magiic504 Both! If you are volunteering, the type of volunteering matters - are you able to get an insight into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the nonprofit? Are you able to interact and learn from organization staff? If possible, offer to volunteer to do the "grunt work" for a nonprofit
