St. Pius X, Pope- Born into a poor family, he was known for his simplicity, personal poverty, strong faith, and concern for ordinary Catholics.

His pontificate focused especially on defending Catholic doctrine against Modernism, which he regarded as a serious threat to the Faith, while strongly promoting Thomistic philosophy and theology. He also reformed the Roman Curia and began the work that led to the 1917 Code of Canon Law.

Pius X had a lasting influence on Catholic spiritual and liturgical life. He encouraged frequent Holy Communion, lowered the age of First Holy Communion for children, and supported the renewal of Gregorian chant.

Beheading of St. John the Baptist- About a year after Saint John had been made a prisoner, Herod gave a splendid entertainment to the nobility of Galilee. Salome, a daughter of Herodias by her lawful husband, pleased Herod by her dancing, insomuch that he promised her to grant whatever she asked.

On this, Salome consulted with her mother what to ask. Herodias instructed her daughter to demand the death of John the Baptist, and persuaded the young damsel to make it part of her petition that the head of the prisoner should be forthwith brought to her in a dish. This strange request startled the tyrant himself; he assented, however, and sent a soldier of his guard to behead the Saint in prison, with an order to bring his head in a charger and present it to Salome, who delivered it to her mother.

St Louis King and Confessor-St. Louis IX became king of France at the age of twelve and was raised in holiness by his mother, Blanche. After twenty years as king, he led a crusade to recover Jerusalem. Though initially successful, his army was devastated by disease, and Louis was captured. After his release, he remained in the East for five years, freeing Christian captives, helping spread the faith, and rebuilding Christian towns.

After returning to France, Louis devoted himself to charity and works of mercy. He founded monasteries and hospitals, cared personally for the sick and poor, lived simply, fasted, and practiced severe penance. He later led another expedition against the Saracens in Africa, where he died from disease while praying. Known for his holiness and miracles, he was canonized by Pope Boniface VIII and is remembered as a model of a Christian ruler devoted to faith, charity, and service.

St. Bartholomew- He was one of the twelve Apostles and is commonly identified with Nathaniel of Cana, whom St. Philip brought to Christ. Praised by Jesus for his sincerity and innocence, Bartholomew received the Holy Ghost with the Apostles after Christ’s Ascension. He devoted himself to spreading the Gospel through distant and often barbarous regions, including parts of India, Asia Minor, Lycaonia, and finally Great Armenia. There, while preaching against idolatry, he was martyred—tradition holding that he was crucified and possibly flayed alive.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary- "Today the Virgin Mary ascended to heaven; rejoice, for she reigns with Christ forever." As evidenced by the writings of many early Church fathers, Christians have believed for more than a millennium that the Blessed Virgin was assumed into heaven. In 1950, Pope Pius XII issued Munificentissimus Deus, which officially defined the Dogma of the Assumption.

St. Clare of Assisi- The noble virgin Clare was born at Assisi, in Umbria. Following the example of St. Francis, her fellow-citizen, she distributed all her goods in alms to the poor, and, fleeing from the noise of the world, she retired to a country church, where blessed Francis cut off her hair.

Her relations attempted to bring her back to the world, but she bravely resisted all their endeavors; and then St. Francis took her to the church of St. Damian. Here our Lord gave her several companions, so that she founded a convent of consecrated virgins, and her reluctance being overcome by the earnest desire of her holy father, she undertook its government.

St. Philomena- In 1802, the remains of a young woman were discovered in the Catacomb of Saint Priscilla on the Via Salaria. The tomb was covered with stones bearing symbols that suggested the body belonged to a martyr named Saint Philomena. Her bones were exhumed and cataloged, but were eventually forgotten because very little was known about her.

An inscription near the tomb read, “Peace be with thee, Philomena,” and included drawings of two anchors, three arrows, and a palm. A small glass vial containing what appeared to be blood was also found near her remains. Since early Christians commonly used symbols and signs to identify martyrs, these discoveries led to the conclusion that Saint Philomena had been a virgin and a martyr.

St. John Mary Vianney- (1786–1859), also known as the Curé of Ars, was a French priest renowned for his deep piety, tireless work in the confessional, and radical transformation of his rural parish. Canonized in 1925, he is celebrated globally as the patron saint of parish priests.

He would Spend 16 to 18 hours a day hearing confessions during his later years.
Attracted tens of thousands of pilgrims annually who sought his spiritual counsel and gift of reading hearts. St. John Vianney Founded La Providence, a shelter and home for orphaned and destitute children.

Transfiguration of Jesus Christ- Moses and Elias were seen by the three apostles in His company on this occasion, and were heard discoursing with Him of the death which He was to suffer inJerusalem.

The three apostles were wonderfully delighted with this glorious vision, and St.
Peter cried out to Christ, "Lord, it is good for us to be here, Let us make three tents: one for Thee, one for Moses, and one for Elias." Whilst St. Peter was speaking, there came, on a sudden, a bright shining cloud from heaven, an emblem of the presence of Gods majesty, and from out of this cloud was heard a voice which said, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him."

St. Dominic- Was a Castilian religious priest and the founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). He is the patron saint of astronomers and natural scientists, and he and the Dominicans are traditionally credited with spreading and popularizing the rosary.

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Bishop, Confessor & Doctor- Italian Catholic bishop, as well as a spiritual writer, composer, musician, artist, poet, lawyer, scholastic philosopher, and theologian. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, known as the Redemptorists, in November 1732.
