Even the opinions you have about yourself are not necessarily true; therefore you don’t need to take whatever you hear in your own mind personally…Don’t take anything personally because by taking things personally you set yourself up to suffer for nothing….🫶🏽
Whatever happens around you, don’t take it personally… Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. All people live in their own dream, in their own mind; they are in a completely different world from the one we live in.
It’s interesting how easily we say “I’m kind” or “I’m considerate” 😌
And I’m like… okay, but is that something you are, or something you believe about yourself?
Because sometimes we’re well-intentioned, but the experience on the other side tells a slightly different story.
At 18, you are fully legally an adult. That is fixed in law.
From a neuroscience perspective, some brain systems involved in judgment and self-control are still maturing into the mid-20s (often around 25, with variation).
As a therapist, I want to tell you: “You loved him because love is in you. You had fun because you are fun. You felt happy because you are a happy person. You gave your all because that is who you are. You have a really beautiful way of loving, and you are going to be okay.”
