Following the inclusion of references to the Manusmriti in NCERT Class 9 textbooks, former NCERT Director J.S. Rajput said he has personally read the text, including its disputed portions, and discussed it with scholars.

He added that the Manusmriti contains profound insights that continue to surprise modern thinkers, reflecting the advanced nature of its thought.

Rajput also said that ancient literature deserves to be known and should not automatically be branded as "controversial."

Hindu Ekta Andolan has warned of action.
