@LAevolving @hollyernest Hmm. Might this explain why I haven’t seen an Anna’s in my coastal OC yard for more than a year? Anna’s used to outnumber Allen’s 10:1 at least. Now they’re gone.
@sweetlynnc @lifedispersing @naomibot @tjalamont (Not surprised to find this thread among you Mojave fans.) We’ve watched recovery at a 2006 burn and have seen little to none over 14 yrs. But those have been some dry years. The adjacent in-tact JT woodland has dense native shrub, but also lots of Bromus!!
Internship available to CSU undergrad & graduate women in #STEM, in partnership between Mojave Desert Land Trust & Bureau of Land Mngmnt.
Applications & Resumes due Aug. 21 to [email protected]
Women in Science Discovering Our Mojave (WISDOM) Project starts Sept. 8 @desertstudies
Avery did a super job with this amazing long-term data set. Shout out to the many @csuf@csufbio students that contributed to data collection over the years.
Avery Driscoll's PNAS paper on long-term changes in intrinsic water-use efficiency in #Encelia farinosa with #climatechange has just been published, https://t.co/3dOrdjXN8N
DEPRAVED 2020 was unlike any other - delayed to June, and with a crew of but three. Easy to distance 6 m when working in the wide-open of the Mojave. We missed you Jim @ehleringer#Encelia#covidsafe#fieldwork
Our pick for #WildlifeWednesday is the Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes). It moves in a sideways motion by manipulating it's body in S-shape curves. Each curve is a point of contact with the ground and creates friction to lift and push itself forward over loose sandy substrates.
