As this day comes to an end, I find myself reflecting over the last 36 hours. I do not have the right words which fully grasp the depth of emotions which I feel. The sadness which has covered our wonderful University by the events that took place Thursday is overwhelming. The hurt and anger is infuriating, while not knowing why something like this would ever occur. I’m so grateful for the law enforcement and first responders for all they did as they cared for those in need. I am filled with empathy for all the victims, families, and individuals affected by this tragic act. I love this community, it is filled with an incredible culture and a deep care for its residents. Thank you for coming together and loving each other in this time of grieving. I am blessed with the responsibility to help guide the leaders of tomorrow to be a positive difference maker in this World. It simply starts with one positive step. In a time of darkness we can be a light for others if we choose to let that light shine. I Love You Tallahassee, FSU and all the NoleFamily! The Transfer Portal and NIL continue to show why they have ROCKED THE BALANCE of College Football.

-QBs for Notre Dame and Ohio State are both Transfers

-2 of the Biggest NIL Budgets in the Country

-1 SEC Team in the Semifinals

-No SEC Teams in the Final

UNLV starting QB Matthew Sluka just decided to redshirt the rest of the season because of an NIL dispute between him and his agent with the school.

Both sides are pointing the finger at each other instead of pointing the thumb back at themselves.

If you promise to pay a student athlete NIL money and get them to commit to your school, YOU SHOULD PAY THEM WHAT YOU PROMISED.

If a student athlete agrees to a NIL deal and commits to play at a school, THEY SHOULD HONOR THAT AGREEMENT.

THERE SHOULD BE NO in season renegotiating of NIL deals just because a player played a few good games or made a few splash plays against a rival.

Renegotiate in the offseason.

If UNLV didn’t pay Sluka what was agreed they are wrong and exploiting student athletes.

If UNLV did pay Sluka what was agreed and Sluka wanted more after beating Houston, Kansas and positioning UNLV in prime position to make the College Football Playoff if they continue the path they are, then Sluka and his agent are wrong.

Nevertheless, my advice for Matthew Sluka would be to reverse course and play out the rest of the season.

Why?

For his teammates. That brotherhood is worth it. The bonds built and excitement they have built together is worth it.

You won’t get this opportunity to lead a team like UNLV to the CFP again.

Go play young man and sue the university after the season whether you make the CFP or not if they didn’t pay you what was agreed upon.

If you make the CFP, the school will have even more money made off the backs of you and your teammates. It strengthens your case in the court of law and in the court of public opinion.

So go play young man.

And let the adults in the room handle the business off the field even if they are acting like children.

Go be with your teammates and have fun playing this beautiful game.

Florida State is the first Undefeated Power 5 Conference Champion to not get into the College Football Playoff. Despite the ACC having a 6-4 record against the SEC this year. Despite their defense not giving up 30 points in a single game all year. Despite their offense having more yards in the ACC Championship than Michigan had in the Big 10 Championship. Despite holding Louisville’s Top 20 Offense to 6 points. Despite beating 4 Top 25 teams. Despite finding a way to win with their Back up QB in a bitter rivalry game. Despite finding a way to win with their 3rd string QB in the ACC Championship Game. Florida State EARNED their spot in the CFP on the field. With and Without Jordan Travis. You don’t punish or diminish the work of 100+ players and coaches because 1 player is not there on the field calling the shots. FSU always answered the bell this year and their response to losing their QB was to play POSSESSED ON DEFENSE. It’s an absolute travesty that they were excluded from the CFP.

There was always such a weird sense with Travis that he was too good to be true... he was too good to be so overlooked... he was too humble... he was too likable... he was too electric.

His presence broke every narrative and stigma about FSU. He was so spectacular, and yet no matter what he did, the national conversation never seemed to fully include him... as if he was just a figment of our imaginations.

In a darkly poetic way, he faded away from the stadium into the night, leaving us all to confront what he did and what he meant for that team and this city and this sport. He left with the team he built in a hole, left to fend for themselves, and to find an identity without him in it. His team responded with fury and rage and a new mandate to play as he had played. The torch didn't pass to one man but to an entire roster.

He gave every last ounce to the game, and now it is up to his teammates, coaches, and his community to bring his proof of concept to life: that FSU is a program... not a player.
