POLICE APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY MURDERED WOMAN AND LOCATE HER NEXT OF KIN

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mangaung is appealing to members of the public to assist in identifying an unknown woman whose body was found in Bloemfontein earlier this month.

On Sunday, 5 July 2026, police responded to a complaint of a body lying in Fort Hare Street, Bloemfontein. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of an unidentified woman believed to be approximately 30 years old.

At the time she was found, she was dressed in black Nike track pants, a yellow and green T-shirt, a black track top, and white slip-on shoes.

A case of murder has been registered at Mangaung Police Station, and investigations are continuing.

The deceased has not yet been identified, and police are appealing to anyone who may recognise the description of the woman or who has information that could assist in tracing her identity or locating her next of kin to come forward.

Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove vital to the investigation.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Constable Bernice Kiewiets, on 076 276 1881 or Mangaung Community Service Centre on 051 406 3000.

Police are searching for two women allegedly seen on CCTV using the bank card of murdered 47-year-old Thabani Mgayo.

Mgayo was reported missing on 23 July 2026 and later found murdered. Investigators say his card was used multiple times at shops in Atteridgeville, Pretoria after his disappearance. A white Toyota Hilux with registration FK 35 PS GP was also hijacked during the incident.

ABSA EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFT AND FRAUD OF R42 MILLION

The Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Iinvestigating have on Friday, 24 July 2026 executed a warrant of arrest that led to the arrest of a former Absa employee, Srinivasa Sitapavani Srikanth Mulakaluri (42) and his accomplice, Danielle Matthews (44) as well as her company called, Athenea Solutions, facing charges of fraud, theft, contravention of Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities (PRECCA) Act 12 of 2004 and Contravention of Prevention of Organised Crime (POCA) Act 121 of 1998.

The arrest is as a result of an internal investigation conducted by Forensic Investigators at Absa where they discovered an irregular relationship between the entity Athenea Solutions which is an approved ABSA vendor, its sole director Danielle Matthews and a former Head of Africa region workforce management at Absa Srinivasa Sitapavani Srikanth Mulakaluri.

Athenea Solutions was contracted to conduct a wide range of services on behalf of Absa. The internal investigation revealed that nine Form of Orders (FOO) to the value of over R42 million excluding Value Added Tax was issued to Athenea Solutions by Absa. According to investigations the Form of Orders were paid during 2024 for services that were to be rendered in 2025 however they were never rendered.

During further investigations it was also discovered that electronic signatures were forged purporting to be those of the managing director The suspects made their first appearance before the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, 27 July 2026 where Danielle Matthews was granted R10 000 and Srinivasa Sitapavani Srikanth Mulakaluri was granted bail of R150 000, the matter is postponed to 15 October 2026
