• Because of the driver’s age, police referred him to juvenile services.

A man lost his life. His family is left planning a funeral. And the response for the child accused of causing it is a “Child in Need of Supervision” referral.

During an interview following the shooting, the boy's mother, Deja Taylor, said he had a "disability."

Remember the Florida man who climbed a playground and told little kids where babies come from?

That was May 2018. Clearwater Beach. Kids ages 4 to 6 on the equipment.

His name is Otis Dawayne Ryan. He was 30 then.

His punishment? A $118 fine.

He still hasn't paid all of it. After 8 years.

But that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

He's a career criminal, after all.

2016: arrested for battery.
2017: arrested twice for felony battery, convicted on one. Also convicted of carrying a concealed weapon. Arrested for domestic aggravated assault.
May 18, 2018: arrested for disorderly conduct at Pier 60 for cursing and dancing into a street performance in front of kids.
May 20, 2018: the playground arrest at Pier 60. Pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct the next day. $118 fine, still not fully paid.
May 24, 2018: arrested for battery on an emergency medical worker. Convicted, 180 days in county jail.
Dec. 3, 2018: arrested for felony battery in Largo. Convicted, 4 years in state prison plus $11,413 in restitution.
June 11, 2022: released from state prison.
July 21, 2022: arrested in Hernando County for petty theft and trespassing.
Aug. 24, 2022: arrested for felony battery in Hernando County. Sat in county jail about 2½ years waiting on the case.
Jan. 23, 2025: sentenced to 13 months in state prison.
Jan. 27, 2025: released with credit for time served.
Sept. 23, 2026: arrested in Orlando for felony battery with prior battery convictions. Still in the Orange County Jail on $5,000 bond, case pending.

He's 38 now. At least 7 battery arrests since 2016.

Bond? $5,000.

This isn't a "Florida Man" joke anymore.

It's a revolving door.

And the next person he hits is somebody's mom, somebody's son, somebody's EMT.

Florida is battling locally acquired dengue and old footage of the state’s genetically modified mosquito experiment is suddenly resurfacing.

Back in 2021, genetically engineered male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were released in the Florida Keys as part of an experiment designed to suppress the disease-carrying mosquito population.

The modified males were engineered so their female offspring would die before reaching adulthood.

Officials said the goal was fewer mosquitoes capable of spreading diseases like dengue.

Now Florida is dealing with locally acquired dengue transmitted by Aedes aegypti... the same mosquito species the experiment was designed to suppress.

The promise was simple: use genetically modified mosquitoes to help control a mosquito that spreads dengue.

Now Florida is still fighting that same mosquito and dengue is spreading across the state.

They released millions of genetically modified mosquitoes to help fight dengue... now Florida is battling dengue anyway. So what went wrong?
