"I think one of the main moments of the tournament was Magnus's unsuccessful performance. Of course, in such an incredibly strong and very young line-up of participants, I think he was under some pressure. And I think he also lacked game practice.

To be honest, I didn't understand why he was trying to play for victory and engage in a no-compromise struggle in literally every game when it was completely unnecessary and illogical. I really respect his chess, his fighting spirit and his desire to fight in every game. But I think even this tournament showed that it's necessary to maintain balance and objectivity.

Already then, I think, certain weaknesses in Magnus's game became noticeable. And Norway Chess just clearly showed the consequences of this. So for me, such a result was not a surprise.

Today, classical chess is very demanding. To play well, you really need to be as focused as possible and work very hard. If you lack practice and a sense of classical chess, it's very difficult to return to a high level."

People are habituated to see Magnus rarely lose game as WC, so people will never appreciate Ding or Gukesh. Magnus left the big shoes which is difficult to fill and it's going to happen for long time until next generational talent arrives.
