Haldiram’s Takes London by Storm : The Indian Snack Giant Opens Its First UK Branch
India’s premier snack and restaurant brand, Haldiram’s, has officially made its UK debut with a flagship branch near London’s iconic Leicester Square.
Located at 19-20 Irving Street, the massive 3,000-square-foot restaurant comfortably accommodates around 110 to 120 diners at a time.
The menu proudly features authentic North Indian street food staples, including crowd favorites like :
Chole Bhature,Pav Bhaji, Raj Kachori and an assortment of traditional Indian sweets.
The grand opening triggered an overwhelming response, with videos of long, winding queues flooding social media.
Both the Indian diaspora (NRIs) and local Londoners were spotted waiting patiently outside the store to get a taste of their favorite comfort foods, from piping hot Chole Bhature to classic Bhujia. The frenzy was so intense that netizens jokingly quipped that every Indian in London seemingly shared the exact same weekend plan.
Outperforming Global Fast-Food Giants
This massive UK launch comes on the heels of Haldiram’s staggering financial dominance over international fast-food chains.
A Quick Financial Comparison (FY 2023 Revenue in India):
McDonald's India: ~₹2,500 Crore
Domino's India: ~₹5,000 Crore
Combined Total: ₹7,500 Crore
Haldiram's: ₹12,800 Crore
In the 2023 financial year, while global giants McDonald's and Domino's generated a combined revenue of ₹7,500 crore in India, Haldiram’s comfortably eclipsed them both on its own, clocking in a staggering ₹12,800 crore.
With its new London footprint, the homegrown Indian brand is well on its way to cementing its status as a global culinary powerhouse.

TRAI Proposes Cheaper 'Voice & SMS Only' Plans : No More Paying for Unwanted Data / Internet
Mobile recharges could soon become significantly cheaper for users who do not require internet access or Mobile Data Facility.
India's Telecom Regulator - TRAI is currently working on a framework to eliminate the mandatory bundling of data packs, driven by a simple principle : Why pay for data if you don’t need it?
To implement this, the telecom regulator has released a new draft of the "Telecom Consumers Protection Regulations, 2026." TRAI has invited feedback from all stakeholders and industry players before finalizing the policy.
What is the New Proposal?
Currently, telecom operators offer 'Voice-and-SMS only' packs with very limited validity periods. This lack of options forces many feature phone users and budget-conscious consumers to purchase expensive plans that come bundled with daily data limits they do not use.
Under the new draft regulations, TRAI has proposed a strict mirroring mandate:
Telecom companies must introduce standalone 'Voice and SMS' plans for every standard validity period currently available for data-bundled plans.
If a service provider offers a data pack with a validity of 7, 28, 56, or 84 days, they must offer a corresponding voice-and-SMS-only plan for the exact same duration.
If finalized, this move is expected to provide massive financial relief to millions of users—particularly senior citizens and rural consumers—by driving down the baseline cost of maintaining a mobile connection.
India's 5G Rollout and Performance Coverage:
● 5G available in nearly all districts (99.9%) of India with ~85% population coverage and over 500,000–518,000 5G BTS sites.
● Reliance Jio and Airtel dominance likely continues; Vi and BSNL aim to close gaps via expansions and partnerships.
● Adoption : 5G subscribers exceeded 400 million by early 2026 (India ranks #2 globally after China). Jio leads in scale and speeds (Standalone 5G, ~199 Mbps download in tests); Airtel strong in urban/quality; Vi competitive in select cities for video/gaming experience.
● Speeds : Median mobile broadband ~131 Mbps. Jio often tops Opensignal/TRAI drive tests for download speed and coverage.
◆ Govt Operator BSNL : Deployed ~98,000 indigenous 4G sites (upgradable to 5G); planning commercial 5G launch in 2026 using domestic stack (C-DOT/TCS).

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Prambanan Temple in Indonesia highlights a core pillar of India's foreign policy, the revival and preservation of shared ancient Indian Civilizational and Cultural Heritage across the globe.
Through targeted financial aid, technical expertise from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and diplomatic agreements, India has actively restored key religious and historic landmarks.
Reviving Global Cultural Footprints : India’s Cultural Diplomacy Under PM Modi (@narendramodi) . The key restoration projects undertaken globally include :👇
🇧🇩 Bangladesh :
Ramna Kali Mandir (2021): The Modi government provided financial and logistical assistance to rebuild this historic temple, which was completely destroyed by the Pakistani Army during 'Operation Searchlight' in 1971. Its inauguration in 2021 revived a major Hindu pilgrimage site in Bangladesh, deeply strengthening the shared civilizational bonds between the two nations.
Joy Kali Mata Temple (2020): India extended grant assistance to reconstruct the 300-year-old Joy Kali Mata Temple in Natore. Similar restoration support was provided for the Anandamayi Kali Mata Temple and the Ramakrishna Temple, helping preserve crucial centers of Hindu faith and culture in Bangladesh.
🇻🇳 Vietnam
My Son Temple Complex (2014): The Modi government undertook the conservation and restoration of the UNESCO World Heritage site, My Son. As one of Southeast Asia's most significant Shaivite temple clusters, it served as the spiritual heart of the ancient Champa Kingdom.
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka :
Thiruketheeshwaram Temple (2015): In July 2015, following the reactivation of the project by the Indian government, India signed an agreement to restore the historic Thiruketheeshwaram Temple. India committed a grant assistance of 326 million Sri Lankan Rupees ($32.6 Crore LKR) to this project. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is revered as one of the five ancient 'Pancha Ishwaram' temples of Sri Lanka.
🇲🇲 Myanmar :
Bagan Heritage Zone (2017): Following a devastating earthquake, India signed an agreement to restore damaged monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bagan. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conserved 12 historic pagodas and successfully completed the restoration of the iconic Ananda Temple.
🇳🇵 Nepal :
Restoration of 28 Cultural Heritage Sites (2017):** In the wake of a catastrophic earthquake in Nepal, India pledged $50 million USD for reconstruction efforts. Under this initiative, the Modi government took up the conservation and restoration of 28 cultural and historical heritage sites, including the historic Seto Machindranath Temple and the Budhanilkantha Temple Dharmashala.
🇧🇭 Bahrain :
Shreenathji Temple (2019):** During PM Modi’s state visit to Bahrain, a $4.2 million USD redevelopment project was launched for the 200-year-old Shreenathji Temple in Manama. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple is one of the oldest Hindu shrines in the Gulf region.
🇰🇭 Cambodia :
Angkor Heritage Sites (2022): India has played a leading role in conserving and restoring key components of the Angkor Heritage complex, including the Ta Prohm Temple, Angkor Wat, and the Preah Vihear Temple. These efforts underscore India's enduring commitment to preserving the architectural grandeur of one of the greatest centers of Hindu civilization outside its borders.
🇱🇦 Laos :

Vodafone idea Vi today announced the rollout of its 5G services in 11 cities of Rajasthan telecom circle.
As part of its planned rollout, Vi 5G services are now available in Kota, Sikar, Bhiwadi, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar , Hanumangarh, Kishangarh, Jhunjhunu and Ajmer.
Jodhpur entered a new chapter in its aviation history today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) inaugurated the city's new world-class airport terminal (as on 4th July 2026), a landmark project developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The modern terminal is a significant upgrade from the old facility and is expected to transform air travel for the region by enhancing passenger convenience, operational efficiency, and future expansion.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2023, and the terminal has been completed in a remarkably short time, reflecting the Government of India's (@PMOIndia) commitment to fast-tracking world-class infrastructure.
Built at an estimated cost of around ₹480–500 crore, the terminal covers nearly 24,000 square metres and is designed to handle approximately 2.5 million passengers annually—several times the capacity of the previous terminal.
Compared with the old terminal, the new facility offers more boarding gates, spacious departure and arrival halls, modern check-in counters, aerobridges, advanced security systems, automated baggage handling, larger waiting lounges, retail outlets, food courts, improved parking facilities, and better accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Inspired by Rajasthan's architectural heritage, the terminal also incorporates sustainable and energy-efficient features.
