Yesterday a large number of civil society members participated in a Candle Light march to show solidarity against police brutality on the peacefull protesting students at Jantar Mantar. The protest was called by the youth leaders of Chandigarh Congress .

Honouring the Sacrifice of 2nd Lieutenant Rajeev Sandhu MVC who fell martyr during the IPKF operations in Sri Lanka on 19 th July 1988 at Rajiv Vihar Chandigarh.

Commissioned in the 7 th Battalion Battalion of the Assam Regiment on 5th March 1988 . Transferred to C Company of the 19 th Madras Regiment he was deployed to Sri Lanka .

Rajeev was one year junior to Sh. Manish Tewari MP in @StJohnsCHS - St. a John’s High School. It was an honour to pay tribute to this courageous martyr.

In the wake of the 1988 floods in Punjab Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi gave One 100 crores Rupees as Calamity Relief Support.

By way of illustration Rs 100 in 1988 is equivalent to Rs 1225 .98 in 2025

Inspected the area in and around Dadu Majra and Dhanas villages of Chandigarh where the Patiala Ki Rao overflowed and damaged the Standing crop of the villagers.

Requested at Deputy Commissioner @nishantyadavIAS if the Patiala Ki Rao could be properly dredged , embankments paved and a proper water front could be created to alleviate the suffering of the people and concurrently develop it as a water front by beautifying the area by creating a road on the other side from the Dhanas bridge to the Toga Bridge which can also be reconstructed by elevating it’s height .

The @MCChandigarh needs to also clean out the swamp ( Toba) created by the dumping of leached water from the Dadu Majra dumping ground.

It could become a marquee project if the @MCChandigarh & @chandigarhadm take it up as a joint endeavour.

After a lot of Follow up with the Union Home Minister & constantly raising these issues in Parliament over past 14 months I am happy to note that the Union Home Ministry has officially asked the Chief Secretary of the Chandigarh Administration to respond to the issues that I have been raising by explicitly referring to the letter/ ‘s that I have been writing.

I do hope the Chandigarh Administration responds positively with solutions to these problems and not why it can not be done.

Interestingly the letter of 4 th August 2025 says reminder this obviously means an earlier letter by the Union Home Ministry was not responded too by the Chandigarh Administration.
