Black British creatives get submitting. A chance to ‘Get out’ of the hell hole that is the uk industry into an environment that doesn’t perpetually infantilize, marginalize and diminish you. ✊🏽🖤
@marcusryder@theleaduk@ITV This is a fundamental and poignant point/issue.
Even beyond "democracy", quality drama is essential for both societal reflection and societal change - crucial in challenging mindsets and addressing lives of the marginalised.
However, it too often fails to achieve these goals.
@akorokoafrica Nigeria's challenge in demonstrating economic viability of film industry was lack of cinema infrastructure and piracy (films straight to DVD etc.).
Do changes in society/industry mean box office figures truly reflect potential for investment and foreign film release?

I am always fascinated how publishing manages to put together all-white lists, panels, festivals, really everything in 2023 at the same time as spouting hot air about diversity…
@BlaakRichardson@miafilms Or, maybe, what they've learnt is how to refine their nefarious practices to best continue the racism (with impunity).
They know that the momentum (in institutionally racist Britain) currently remains on their side.
Congrats to #BAFTA2023 for creating what has to be the gold standard of @simonbg12 ‘diversity deficit’ photos 😂 inclusion really does seems to be the only area where the uk industry is handsomely rewarded for continually failing 🤷🏽♂️
@BlaakRichardson "Performative Diversification" is a very apt term for what has been happening over the past 20-30 years - especially in regards to race.
@anitathetweeter What "changes"? It was as racist then as it is now. And was racist even before then (like the "black and white minstrel shows" that preceded it).
@BlackBritish_B Far from it 😆 but lists are good because they do prompt discussion and an exchange of views and help to get the subject in the public eye.
So excited to share our official poster design, with incredible photography by @Michael_Brosnan

I was invited to give an MLK speech today and a small number of members of the group hosting me wrote and then leaked emails opposing my giving this speech, as it dishonored Dr. King for me to do so. They called me a "discredited activist" "unworthy of such association with King"
