“Please, can someone in the chain of command in Santa Fe management do something to make [Chavez Center] management get serious, stop the time wasting and just fix the place? Or find someone who can? It is not that complicated.”
Chuck Wright - Letter to the Editor @thenewmexican
“I had looked forward to spending time on the ice during the summer, as the break provides an opportunity to make meaningful progress.”

Finally, the good news that we’ve all been waiting for - the GCCC ice rink will open tomorrow (9/24) at 6:30 AM.
Thank you to the incredible rink staff and volunteers for what you’ve done the past week to make this happen.
Unfortunately, the GCCC ice rink is not ready to reopen today (9/23). Rink staff, & volunteers, have been working very hard since last Monday on building ice, however, the ice is still not quite thick enough to reopen. We are expecting an update at 5:00 PM.

“We want the problems solved in a significant way to keep this wonderful rink open-year round and prevent future closures. Skaters and coaches are waiting.”
Melissa Price, Letter to the Editor @thenewmexican
“Driving to Albuquerque is not always an option . . .. The inconvenience of a round trip of 110 miles plus the additional fees is the direct result of the city’s failure to maintain the ice rink.”
Terence Cady & Dorothea Migliori - Letter to Editor @thenewmexican
“Competitions and careers no doubt have been compromised, but so has the overall well-being of each skater and coach.”
Jennifer McDaniel - Letter to the Editor of @thenewmexican
“What was once a gold standard competition now had almost unskateable ice * * * I urge the city for accountability in regards to possible issues, and I urge them to investigate what decisions led us to this point.”
Annisa Berendzen - Letter to the Editor @thenewmexican
“I hope the city will prioritize the maintenance of the rink once it’s back in operation. It’s disheartening that the city of Santa Fe has not taken care of our beautiful skating rink. Please, let’s not let that happen again.”
Anou Mirkine - Letter to the Editor @thenewmexican
We are so happy for @alexa_knierim & @Brandon_F1992 and the rest of the American skaters who competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics team event. 🇺🇸🥇
