@KingsleyUdehSAN The Honourable Minister, the best man for the Job, keep on making us proud.

[Dr Kingsley Udeh SAN @KingsleyUdehSAN]

I held my second virtual meeting with the President of Türkiye’s Council of Higher Education, His Excellency Erol Özvar, to advance the execution of key bilateral agreements established during the state visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to Türkiye in January 2026.

Our focus is clear: to move beyond commitments and build practical, measurable cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, research, and higher education.

Türkiye presented a comprehensive framework for collaboration covering:

🔹 Joint research and research funding
🔹 Postgraduate and doctoral education
🔹 Academic and researcher mobility
🔹 Joint degrees and university partnerships
🔹 Technology transfer and innovation
🔹 Critical minerals and sustainable mining
🔹 Renewable energy and energy storage
🔹 Climate-smart agriculture
🔹 Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation
🔹 Health and genomics
🔹 Urban resilience and the blue economy

To ensure effective implementation, I announced the establishment of a Technical Working Group involving relevant Nigerian institutions and representatives of the Government of Türkiye. The Group will develop a practical 2026–2028 Joint Action Plan, with defined priorities, responsibilities, timelines, deliverables and performance indicators.

The proposed cooperation will also explore pilot university partnerships, joint doctoral supervision, a Higher Education Joint Committee, research funding mechanisms and a Nigeria–Türkiye Universities and Innovation Forum.

I reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to a partnership that delivers tangible outcomes for our people from stronger research capacity and technology transfer to opportunities for Nigerian students, researchers, universities and innovators.

I have also extended an invitation to the President of Türkiye’s Council of Higher Education to visit Nigeria, which will further strengthen our engagement and accelerate implementation.

Nigeria is open to knowledge partnerships, technology collaboration, and innovation driven development. Our goal is simple: to turn international partnerships into opportunities, solutions and measurable results for Nigerians.

On Thursday, I attended the National Showcase of the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 and the official launch of the Tinubu Light Initiative (TLI) in Abuja.

Hosted by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, the landmark event, themed "Igniting Indigenous Innovation, Transforming Nigeria, Inspiring the World," brought together visionary young innovators, technology leaders, and key institutional stakeholders to celebrate home-grown solutions designed to accelerate Nigeria's socio-economic development.

I used the opportunity to remind the participants that the future wealth of nations will be determined increasingly by innovation rather than natural resources.

Nigeria possesses the talent, youthful population, research capacity, universities, technology hubs, and entrepreneurial spirit required to lead Africa's innovation economy. Our responsibility is to build an ecosystem where research moves beyond laboratories, ideas become products, products become businesses, businesses become industries, and industries create jobs and prosperity.

This remains a strategic focus of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
