Looking at what’s happening across Latin America, you can see exactly why states like China and the DPRK reject social democracy and function the way they do. A genuine socialist government can't survive when it's being constantly pressured by imperialist interference. Social democracy doesn't have the structural defences to stop fascism; it compromises too much and ends up paving the way for it. Castro and Chávez understood this too. They knew that open, relaxed systems are way too vulnerable to economic sabotage and coups, which is why they argued that you need a strong, unified revolutionary state to fight back.
