[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Very large polymers re called macromolecules

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Polymers re constructed from monomers by a series of rxnz called condensatn rxn

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

The general structure of all amino acids is d same...but each has a different side chain

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Amino acids ave both three letter n single letterr abbreviatns eg. Arginine (Arg; R) Histidine(His;H) Lysine(Lys; K) Aspartic acid(Asp;D)

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

The 4 levels of protein structure are primary, secondary, tertiary, n quaternary.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Enzymes re catalytic proteins that speed up biochemical rxtnz

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Non covalent forces maintain the interactions btn the lipid monomers.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Lipids also form large structures from a limited set of smaller molecules

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Nucleic acids re formed from 4 kinds of nucleotide monomers linked 2gether in long chain.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Carbohydrates can form giant molecules by linking together chemically similar sugar monomers(monosaccharides) to form polysaccharides.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

All the 20 amino acids share chemical similarities

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Proteins re formed from different combinatns of 20 amino acids.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Lipids re not polymers....Poly, many.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Carbohydrate, Proteins n Nucleic acids re polymers formed by covalent bonding of smaller molecules called monomers

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Four molecules in living organism: Proteins, Carbohydrates, Lipids, Nucleic acids.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Monomers are joined by condensatn rxn which release a molecule of water for each bond formed.

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Peptide linkages, also cald peptide bonds, covalently link amino acids into polypeptide chains. Condensatn rxn btn carboxyl n amino group

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

Cellulose is a very stable glucose polymer n is the principal structural compponeent of plant cell wall

[BIOL213213 @SapeeBio213]

The fxn of proteins include support, protection, catalysis, transport, defense, regulatn, n movementm
