🚀 Startup Merger Insights: A Tale of Two Teams 🤝
Recently worked with 2 small startup teams tackling the same big problem at different stages of the user journey.
After 12 weeks of hard work, ups & downs, the VC board decided to merge them.
Key takeaways when combining teams:
1️⃣ Respect existing dynamics
2️⃣ Align on shared vision
3️⃣ Clear role definition
4️⃣ Open communication
5️⃣ Celebrate diversity and ensure Inclusion
🧵 Thread: Unpacking each point…

My top three favorites are 1, 3, and 8. 1 because of the engagement and authentic discussions. 3 because it’s easier to connect with communities for specific niches. And 8. because of similar engagement like X, and lot of constructive feedback. 1 enables more detailed and deeper connections with people compared to 8 though!

@davidlovejoyx Know how, frameworks and support to quickly incubate (validate) a business idea within 12 weeks from a simple concept to an MVP pitch for seed funding!
One of the greatest joys of recent times is me being able to kindly deny social invitations and feel so at peace with it. About a decade back, didn’t realize how I would entertain a lunch or dinner on a weekend, just because someone invited us. Only to wonder why Monday is so tiring!
@ColdsireSetup@thedanielaros It’s a blessing to be able to recognize that you are caught on that hamster wheel, and then separate yourself from it and get off of it!
For SaaS products, I’ve reached out to 80-100 people at a given time, purely through cold calling on LinkedIn and requested for 15 minutes of their time.
I would include a blurb about the problem being solved, the unique value proposition for that specific person, and request for 15 mins of their time for a technical walkthrough.
~10 would respond and even entertain the 15 minute call. And I think this was mainly because of this SaaS being offered under a branded corporate umbrella.
On an average 1 out of 10 would sign up for a free trial. And the chances of this free trial converting to a paid customer was of course even more lesser to sometimes none!
What I learnt from these experiences is that this approach is not necessarily scalable because of the time & effort vs ROI.
And although the person I was engaging with had the problem, and the need to use the SaaS, they were not decision makers for pricing and new tool purchase.
The problem itself was not severe enough for them to comfortably justify the need. It wasn’t a ‘I so badly need this!!’
In some cases, they would learn about the solution and figure out a way to solve it in house (build vs buy)
@idia@iamfredrik_ Maybe this one time payment for lifetime access could be limited - this way the ones who get the deal would definitely feel more ownership and exclusivity…like early partners
@davidlovejoyx For sure, crucial data. Can be powerful combined with your own market research and insights that you can draw from what’s not been explicitly said during customer interactions!
