@BecomingCritter Yeah, I still feel like going to a place where people go when they are sick is a terrible way to give out vaccines. Going from 6/6 getting sick to 0/3 doesn’t really give me a huge range to be confident on the doctors office even, though.
@liminal_warmth My wife stayed at work bullshitting for like 2 hours and I just about lost my mind. I was like, did someone do something to her when she was leaving work? I was debating driving over there but I had no idea what I would even be looking for. And then she came home.
@powerbottomdad1 Same, I waffled for 5 years and not much changed in my life. Even just starting that 5 years earlier feels like it would have been amazing. Funny though, even with a kid I still get the pangs of “if you have a kid you are going to ruin your life.” So, that shit I was taught is bad
@alexchunha@typesfast@pmarca But I remember the line being something like “when he was told that it was a jobs program, he said, why give them shovels at all, you could give them spoons and it would produce even more jobs!”
@alexchunha@typesfast@pmarca I am not super big into Milton Friedman but I remember it being from him as well and the only thing I think I would have gotten it from was “free to choose”.
@tszzl@krishnanrohit I feel it needed to define the damages a bit better. And probably qualify open source models in someway so they aren’t just a tail end risk for the companies that produce them. But I like open source and that was mostly my concern, which is kind of opposed to averting damages.
@JesseTayRiver Yeah, I do think the vast majority of the wage increases came from state minimum wage increases. So, calling it wage growth feels to me like attributing it to the economy instead of it mostly being legislated in. It didn’t really grow; it was forced.
@bryan_caplan And yet with the high price tag the best meal I have ever had I prepared myself. Tailoring to tastes is hard to do systematically at a restaurant IMO.
@BecomingCritter That’s always my thing when I have to work weekends. I am like, I will work, but so help me I am going to sleep in and when I get to my first customer is when I get to them.
@BecomingCritter I still joke about my first date with my wife. I started rambling about some economic policy or something and I kept asking for her opinion and she would give me like, 7 word answers. So I would change topic and the same thing so, I just continued rambling. And that’s how it went
@BecomingCritter I only read non fiction so I don’t know how useful this is but I was pretty held by Chip Wars. All the Walter issacson stuff is really good and on the topic of biographies: Bossypants, Surely you’re joking me Feynman. Smartest guys in the room I loved. Final one: stress test
@selentelechia I suspect that sleep is probably a confounder for stress. If I am stressed, I sleep less. If I am chronically stressed, I sleep less long term. With having a kid, I don’t feel the same stress waking up that I do when I get up for a year at a job that starts at 6am.
