There was a time, before the war when Ukraine was in desperate need of money. The world bank offered an EU future and a bailout with strings attached resulting in austerity for the people. Russia offered more money and with no strings. I suspect the overarching motive was to proffer a positive and prosperous, healthy relationship between Nation States... in the same way that China and Russia, or Russia and Belarus operate diplomatically. I suspect that Ukraine would have ended up in BRICS, because of their resources and life would be different.
What did happen is that Ukraine chose the EU/NATO future and World bank bailouts that keep the people poor. So, where is the EU/ NATO membership?
It's not happening! Why is that? Why did Ukraine believe that the west was more reliable?
